H5i Cleanable Tub - Confusion

Post by STL Mark » Thu Sep 27, 2012 1:03 pm

Received product from my DME today. Since I trust them as much as a convicted con artist I double checked everything. My H5i Cleanable Tub in the nice little cardboard box with Ref 36800 on it appears different when out of the box. Knowing that the standard tank now opens (much like the cleanable tub), I called Resmed customer service.

I asked them how to tell the new standard tub from the cleanable tub once they were out of the box. I was told that the cleanable tub (36800) has a black seal between the parts and a stainless steel bottom, and the standard tank has a yellow seal and an aluminum bottom.

What I received today was from ResMed's lot number 361573 and has the black seal but a suspiciously brushed aluminum looking bottom. Nothing like the mirrored bottom of past stainless steel tanks in the 36800 series. Is this a ResMed assembly error? Curious what others are seeing...

There are two parts to the upper section, upper and lower. Can't figure out why they did that! The whole thing is considerably heavier than the prior cleanable tub. Those are the only differences I can see between the two cleanable tubs, aside from the additional black gasket. Was told the heavier one is the new model.

I posted something to this but the database crashed... I think there is a reason we used postgress and not mysql.

I have the new and old cleanable tank. The new metal base isn't shiny but is heavier (113 grams vs 120+ something grams)

They are both slightly magnetic while the old disposable tank wasn't at all. It looks like both the disposable tanks would appear to be made out of something close to surgical grade stainless steel but the old one may have a plating on it to make it shiny.

I expect the old one is better if you hand wash since the new one has lots of microscopic grooves in it. If you use a dishwasher, it won't matter. I wonder if the plating was removed after complaints on overheating.

Yeah, I'm confused. My tank has a yellow seal but only two pieces, clear top and metal bottom, well, three pieces if you include the plastic piece with ears that locks top and bottom together. The top seems to be quite heavy plastic but I have no idea which type of tank it is.

The 2 piece one is the non-cleanable tub (as in not cleanable in the dishwasher).
It is only 2 pieces because since you should not put it in the dishwasher, the gasket is on the 2nd piece. The part that holds the water should be made out of aluminum.

The so-called cleanable tub (dishwasher safe) is in 3 pieces because the 3rd piece holds the gasket only & this part only should not be put in the dishwasher (because of the gasket). The other 2 pieces can be put in the dishwasher.
The part that holds the water should be made out of stainless steel.

Thanks! That helps, I really don't see a need to put the tank in the dishwasher anyway but then I use distilled water and empty my tank and allow it to air dry every day so I don't clean mine at all.

I got a new "dishwasher safe" water tub on 2-28-13.

The bottom (that holds the water) is no longer "shiny" Stainless Steel, but is probably still Stainless Steel.

I assume you are talking about the bottom on the inside of the tank and not the underneath of the tank?

On the inside mine is more of a dull brushed finsih. definately not shiny.
