I have my Intellipap sitting on a thick mousepad. It is quieter than my PR System one was but this thick mousepad makes it almost silent.

Good suggestion. There are three flavors of noise transmission with which one needs to be concerned:
  • The first is radiated noise, the noise the machine makes by itself. This method of sound transmission travels in a straight line, for the most part. One's perception of radiated noise can be minimized by placing some sort of barrier between your ears and the machine. Placing the machine anywhere but on top of the nightstand will go a long way toward quieting your machine.

The second is conducted noise, the noise the machine makes when in contact with another surface. Like the soundbox on a guitar, a low table or night stand can mechanically conduct vibration from the machine and amplify it. To minimize conducted noise, place the machine on a mouse pad or other soft material.

The third is ducted noise. Some (cheap) hoses are made from rather rigid plastic that channels noise from the blower unit quite effectively. The hose that came with my Intellipap was one of those. So I replaced it with a spare Slimline hose from my S9 Autoset, and set the hose length in the iPAP to 10' to compensate for the Slimline's smaller diameter and greater restriction to flow. I think DeVilbiss is shipping with a better quality, more flexible hose than they included 18 months ago when I bought mine, so that might no longer be a problem. But if you have any doubts, buy a better hose. CPAP.com has a number of more flexible (and quieter) hoses.

Finally, remember that some masks are noisier than others, as I mentioned earlier.

I use the second hose you mentioned. My main mask is the Aeimed and it does make a noise on inhale. It is like "white noise" to me and I hardly notice it. It may even be helping me get to sleep.

Well......last night I set top pressure to 11 and low 6.5. Settled in for a good night. I have no problems with sleeping with my extra bed partner 'hose'.
Woke up once with a full on blast of air however I think my Pilario mask may have slipped a little.

My AHI reading a whooooooppppppppiiiinnnnggggg. 20 !!!

Slartibartfast I think tonight will be on CPAP not auto.
I did notice the inhale was not as loud, maybe Im just getting use to it. And I think I've adjusted to I and R settings, and smart flex, so now i need to get this AHI down. Considering during my sleep study it was only 18.

Thanks all for your most helpful insights into the Intellipap, I will soldier on.
Cheers
Sleep Well.....
