Itches

Post by biged46us » Wed Jun 20, 2012 7:02 pm

I've been using my CPAP machine for about a month. I'm working thru a bunch of issues, but the most annoying is that when I put on my mask, my nose develops an itch for a few minutes afterwards. I know this sounds silly, but have any of you dealt with this? I'm using a System One (CFlex +) with a Quattro FX mask

It is funny you brought this up because a week or so ago when I wore the Mirage Quattro I have on standby for a couple nights, I to had this very sensation and it was a real pain in the arse. I ended up just putting mind over matter (did I say that right?...) and ignoring it. I know that is not what you wanted to hear and hopefully someone else will have a better answer.

the first thing we learned in military basic training so very many years ago was to stand at attention and do not move for any reason. when you're scared half to death you learn to ignore itches. it works. you can just train yourself to ignore itches and things if you want to.

I've found that washing my face with Neutragena before enmasking helps with itches. (Also, getting rid of stray nostril hairs. )

LOL chunkyfrog!

I found a great hint on this forum to help with itching under the mask.

Just give your entire face a good brisk rub just before putting your mask on - no idea why this works, but it does for me.... maybe it's just the power of suggestion lol.

Cheers,
xena

Take a chop stick, unsharpened pencil, etc. to bed with you. I slide it up under the mask making as little a leak as possible, get the itch taken care of and get out, easy peasy.

Quattro gives me itches too. I had to use the Quattro this week because I lost the straps for my Hybrid. Never found a solution that helped much for the itching. Back to my hybrid tonight.

I was just thinking about this problem this morning as I get little tickles, but I hate to adjust my mask once I have it right. Scratching one itch could cost me 20 minutes in mask adjustments. I found myself thinking of a tv program that followed cadets through basic training. One thing they had to learn was not react even if it bugs landed on them tickled, or bit them. And they were in a horrible location for bugs. The idea was that scratching an itch could cause the enemy to see them, so they simply have to learn to ignore it. I remember thinking as I watched that, that I would never be able to do that. Now I am trying

I also have a tendency to get a cat hair in my mask. I have cats, and the mask cushion seems to attract hair with static electricity. I am always checking the mask for cat hair before I put it on.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
