Real HW differences between the S9 Elite and AutoSet?

So I just got my prescription for CPAP in Ontario, which means I have to go CPAP - no APAP - unless I'm willing to buy the entire thing on my own with no insurance coverage. (Here's that's about $1500-2000.)

I keep looking at the feature sets between the AutoSet and the Elite and thinking: underneath the covers, these devices must be virtually identical. The Elite is going to need pressure sensors for OSA detection just like the AutoSet would, so I don't see mechanical devices or sensors being present in one and not the other.

Has anyone done a teardown of these machines yet to see what the differences are?

If my suspicion is correct, it might even be possible to "convert" an Elite to an AutoSet, unofficially. Yes, yes, you're taking your life into your own hands, full disclaimers apply, etc. but it'd be an interesting project.

Anyone have a dead S9 Elite or AutoSet they'd be willing to donate? I'm an engineer by trade and would be willing to do a side-by-side comparison.

I suspect the hardware is the same, but I don't have any inside information or schematics to prove it. I'll bet ResMed makes it really hard to reprogram an Elite to be an AutoSet, if it's even technically possible.
