S9 AutoSet in my future

Post by MDALE » Thu Feb 16, 2012 8:26 pm

My doctor has prescribed an S9 AutoSet for me - Hurray!. After about eight weeks of good results with a CPAP machine (AHI = 3.8 ), I was eager to move up to the advantages of better data capability and hopefully even lower AHI using APAP.

I'm excited but have been warned that my insurance company may balk.

When I got my S9 Autoset I had the option of going with any brand/model I wanted because (according to posts on this board) insurance companies pay a flat rate for this stuff regardless of brand/model. According to my DME all the manufacturers compete with one another so the non-covered price is pretty much the same also. In my case my research pointed me toward the S9 to begin with so when I went "shopping" for a DME I asked what model and brand they would recommend based my needs and two our of 3 recommended the ResMed and one DME said that given my needs the S9 would have been his first pick. So.... From what I know you shouldn't have any insurance issues.

If he writes the prescription specifying a pressure range, even a small one, it may help.

Archangle - I tried getting him to specify a range but he wasn't willing.

My thinking is that it is best for me to purchase it outright from a DME if I can get it approved by my insurance so I meet my deductible for the year. But second choice is a purchase off Craig's list and that's not so bad either.
