still waiting for results
still waiting for results
Ok. I'm starting to loose my patience. I had my 2nd sleep test done 17 days ago. still no word about the results. I've been calling my drs office to find out what the results were. finally, today, they tell me that they havent been evaluated at the sleep center yet. WHAT??? I have to admit that i live in fear of dying every nite. the reason is that in the end of Sept. I had a grand mal seizure that lasted over an hr. both sides of my brain was swollen as far as it could go and I had a heart attact. I was in a coma for 3 days and they told my family to be ready to say goodby to me as they didn't think I would make it and if I did, I would be on life support or totally unable to care for myself. fast forward. I'm still here and aside from some memory problems, I'm doing pretty good. there is the possibility that sleep apnea could have had something to do with all that has happened. with that in mind, you can see why this waiting is so hard. the first test showed severe apnea, but i dont have any numbers. so I have to sit and wait for the final results. that is why I don't sleep well. hubby waked me up so many times because I'm not breathing. (not something he did before this all happened lol). I think tomorrow I'll call the sleep center and ask then what is going on.

Sheesh, Mary!! I feel so badly for you - you should have been given a machine immediately following the sleep study so that at least you would be getting therapy.
Did they even put you on XPAP during the study? I had a split study and when it was obvious I was having events (96/hr) they slapped a mask on me. This showed them immediately that CPAP therapy improved my events immensely, even at quite a low pressure.
I would be pushing very hard to get your machine ASAP and demanding to speak to anyone who can facilitate this immediately. Make a lot of noise - you're entitled to this, but specially considering the severity of your health issues regarding this.
Good luck - and let us know how it progresses.
Cheers,
xena

See if you can't get your primary care Doctor to light a fire under them.

Good grief.... with your medical history, this borders on medical malpractice. I can't believe they haven't even evaluated your study yet. I'd be camping on their doorstep until I badgered them into doing it....and why hasn't your doctor put pressure on them to expedite this considering your conditions? Honestly, I read stories like yours, and I am so thankful to have had such a quick turnaround from study to results to machine.
I do hope you will get results tomorrow or Monday. In the meantime, try sleeping in a recliner chair, if you have one. If not, do your best to sleep on your left side. Best of luck to you.... and keep us posted on the results when you get them.

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

Re: still waiting for results
I'm suprised you weren't diagnosed with sleep apnea while you were in the hospital. It seems it would have been apparent at that time.
When you call the sleep lab tomorrow, tell them you want a copy of the full report and condensed graphs from your first study. The titration too if it's done. I can't believe it's taking them so long.
The report and graphs contain a lot of information that will help you understand the titration report and your treatment. It's also helpful information to sift through before you see your doc again.

I would first try showing up at the sleep center and demanding that your results be read and given to you immediately. Don't call them, GO THERE! If you don't get your results immediately, tell them your medical situation and your genuine concern for your life. Demand to speak to the manager, their manager, etc, until you find someone who will listen. Don't take "no" for an answer. If you don't stand up for yourself, no one will. If your doctor is supportive, I would call them in addition to going to the sleep center, and ask them to call the sleep center themselves.
Tell us how it goes!
Good luck!

Re: still waiting for results
well, I called the sleep center early evening and left a message at the sleep center. no call back, so I'm going to call the sleep office this morning when they open. My daughter will be here about 11, so i'm going to have her take me to the center. I'll let you know what happens.

What you may find out is that the Sleep Center processed your test and sent the results to your doctor...who has them somewhere in the office.

Re: still waiting for results
well, I've got some answers..... lots of ppl calling me to give me an update. I have to go back to the sleep center Sun for another test. It seems I don't have regular slep apnea. I may need a BiPap or another type..can't remember the 2nd one. according to the results, I'm not doing a good job of breathing. I just hope we get some answers with this test.
