Quattro sizing?

Post by darimont » Thu Nov 03, 2011 1:28 pm

Anyone have sizing experience with quattro? I'm looking at this mask and I'm just barely into the large range. The sheet says to go to the size below if your on the line. I'm thinking maybe the smaller size (med) is right as I'm at the bottom end of the large. After looking at the dimensions of the different sizes it appears that the large is almost a 1/2" longer this maybe to long I'm thinking. Anyone have any input on this as far as getting a seal with to large or small of a mask.

Thanks

Hi Darimont,
I have limited experience with the Quattro but I do have one. I'm a large guy...6'3" tall with a fairly long face. The large fits me pretty good. Still learning on the strap adjustment. It seems a little trickier then the ComforGel FF I was using...regarding adjustment.

My gut feeling is that you would probably be a medium...mo way to try one on at your DME office?

Sorry this isn't exactly the info you were looking for. All my other experience is with nasal masks which are very different regarding fit. Good luck...

Hi Jamis,
My DME is almost useless. I was their yesterday and all they had was a Med. in the Quattro, he said to try it because I was close. What I'm seeing is its somewhat low on the bridge of my nose and I have to have the bridge piece dialed almost all the way down to get a good seal, that being said I can get a good seal, but I'm on the line as to go for the large. I'm a little worried that I may rip the thin part of the seal at the top from it being to tight. If I trade up to the larger and it doesn't work for me I'm done for six more months. I'm coming from a Quattra FX that I haven't be able to get to work for me.

I wore my Mirage Quattro medium dialed all the way in w/a mask liner and was ok. If you go larger without needing to you might have an issue w/leaks, as this is a tricky mask for leaks anyway.

Darimont,
Perhaps I spoke to soon. Bridge-of-the-nose issues can be most irritating because your body has little padding there. I honestly can't advise you on this issue.

I would say this. Your DME works for you. Just last week, I fired my DME. I may have to pay a little more buying online as opposed to co-pay...but I don't have to deal with a DME that will only provide me with one brand and has lackadaisical support.

You are not tied to them in any way...

Thanks
Here is my tale.
I am now using the UM small, full time. It works very well.
There are very small differences in the sizing and curvatures of
each of these masks. Look at the pics carefully.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the suggestion. Last night was my second night with the med. quattro and it still feels a little low on the bridge of the nose. I'm going to stick it out with the med. for a few more nights. I have had much better results with the quattro then the quattro fx.

My DME has a new guy starting next week and I'm going in to see him, hopefully he's a lot better then the last one. I think they got a lot of complaints about the him.

You said it felt too low on the bridge of your nose. Are you getting leaks or does it just feel low?

NewbieinOhio,
I am able to get a good seal, the problem is its half way down the nose and I have to crank the thing all the way down. If I put it up higher then it starts pushing up on my lower lip.

I can... switching to the Quattro FX solved my nose bridge issues altogether.

Darimont,

Check out this site. The info here really helped me fit the quattro and avoid leaks. The info also works with the fx too. Hope it helps.

Thanks for that link NewbieinOhio. I am going to try it tonight.

I am a new user (3 weeks) and started with this mask in medium. I just couldn't get it to seal and thought it was probably too big for me. It would come down too low on my chin and it went so far into my eyes that my eyelashes would brush against it. So my DME gave me a small but I haven't had any success yet. I get it adjusted so it doesn't leak but as soon as I change positions (I am a side sleeper) it leaks. I spend 30 minutes trying to stop the leaks until I finally give up and take it completely off. I have tried to be so patient and positive only to end up so discouraged.

I have severe complex apnea so I can't give up. Thanks again for the info and giving me the courage to try it again.
