I have tried for a year and a half to wear this mask, or numerous others I have tried. I developed ear pain and infection, TMJ, my neck is really giving me a lot of pain from having to wear the mask so tight to prevent leaks. I've gained weight, which is not a good thing, I quit snoring and sometimes sleep very deep but it has just not enhanced my life very much. I just looked up whether it prevents heart attacks and according to John Hopkins there is no studies that it does. It is surely a money maker for the DME . I also know of someone who was on it for years and now has to have a repair of an abdominal aneurysm and a quadrupel heart bypass.

If you had joined today I would have deleted this as spam.
Mask so tight to prevent leaks? A simple search on the site will tell you it is not true.
Studies re heart - Another simple search will find lots of real documentation on it
As far as your friend is concerned if he hadn't been wearing it there would have been no need for those surgeries because he would have been dead

Re: quitting
Let me encourage you!!! I tried many mask and finally the Hybrid is working, plus I got pad a cheek liners and pads to help with comfort. An Auto adjust machine and finding the right comfort with c-flex or smart-flex. I have smart flex and I keep it on 1 with inhale at 2 and exhale at 1. not sure if this is making since but it took months and I'm still adjusting. I have done allot of praying and research and this forum has helped so much! Do not give up on treating your sleep apnea some how.
I will pray for you!!!!
I will pray for you!!!!
Re: quitting
kcarlee listen to what blackspinner is telling you. My mother had a stroke two years ago. She is paralyzed on her right side and has slurred speech. She can not rememeber what you told her 5 minutes ago. Over the past two years she has been in and out of hospitals, nursing homes, and therapy. She is miserable and my brother and I spend all of our spare time trying to make her as comfortable as possible. I don't know if she had OSA but a stroke can be the result of OSA. It is a miserable existence.

Re: quitting
Hey kcarlee From your previous posts, it seems you, like myself, are plagued by sinus and ear problems. I had a roto-rooter job on my left nostril to straighten it up and still was found to have mild apnea. Oh well!kcarlee wrote:I have tried for a year and a half to wear this mask, or numerous others I have tried. Did you ever get seen by an ENT specialist (your spring posts) and make any progress in that direction? I also have real touchy ears and the CPAP tends to constantly irritate my left ear. I do the nose spray before going to bed and may soon try the Biotene mouthwash for the dry mouth.
One recommendation to you.. b4 you quit, I'd suggest you try a SOFT mask: the cloth Sleepweaver is what I decided on for myself while watching my better half struggle with the FFM she started with. After two FFM didn't work for her, I also got her a Sleepweaver and, though she mouth-breathes some, it lots better than quitting altogether.
I'll get off my soapbox, but let me put in a plug for my current support group: this forum has sure helped me a lot in the past month. I am a 25+ yr member of a 12-step program and can reassure you, there's nothing like a support net when you're struggling. God Bless, and Keep Coming Back! Feel free to PM if yu want more info on sleepweaver; or Google it. Earl

Re: quitting
I'm curious...if you're quitting then it means you're done with CPAP and most likely would be done with cpaptalk.com as well, since there would no reason to discuss anything in regards to CPAP.kcarlee wrote:I have tried for a year and a half to wear this mask, or numerous others I have tried. So if you're quitting, what is the purpose of announcing it here? What is it you want from everyone? What do you want to talk about?
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Re: quitting
I know someone who wore his seat belt all the time. He died in a car crash. I think I'll stop wearing my seat belt, since they obviously don't help.kcarlee wrote:I also know of someone who was on it for years and now has to have a repair of an abdominal aneurysm and a quadrupel heart bypass.
