What's the longest anyone has had to sleep in another room?
I'm very greatful I have successful CPAP threrapy, but I can't help being depresse about wifey's intolerance for the noises and air rushing from the exhaust port. It's been four years already that I've had to sleep in a spare bedroom by myself. I feel exiled and lonley and depressed. How long has anyone here had to sleep alone like this? BTW, if she knew I posted this she would not be happy about it, but it's worth the risk to find out. Thanks in advance, and happy dreams to all.

I slept in the other room pre-cpap for many years (12) until we finally broke up. If there had been a cpap option we could have worked it out.islandboy5150 wrote:I'm very greatful I have successful CPAP threrapy, but I can't help being depresse about wifey's intolerance for the noises and air rushing from the exhaust port. Tell her to deal with her issues because they are not yours. Get couples counseling. It is not about her being happy. It is about making a relationship work.

Have you tried sleeping top and tail in the same bed? ie heads at opposite ends of the bed.

(You DO know how kinky that sounds, right? lol)
The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.

Re: What's the longest anyone has had to sleep in another room?
My wife and I sleep in separate bedrooms nearly all the time (many years now). We have very different sleep schedules. I try to stick to 11 pm - 7am. She's all over the place but probably averages 2 am - 9 am. She's also a very light sleeper and complains loudly if I move occasionally (not the word she'd use), so if she sleeps in the same bed I tense up trying not to move and thus can't get to sleep, so separate bedrooms works for both of us.
When travelling we try to get two queen beds in the same room. Pre-CPAP she'd always make noises about getting a second room. At least with CPAP that's no longer an issue.
You might suggest two separate beds in the same room. She might be far enough away not to be affected too much.

Re: What's the longest anyone has had to sleep in another room?
12 years..... Wow. Were still very much in love, and shes supportive (as far as she can understand it (cpap that is), but still that doesnt go very far in the middle of the night when she cant sleep but still have to get up and ready for work at 4am.
Seperate beds in the same room is an option, sorry I invested in four bedrooms worth of new furniture for our new house right before I was DX'd. May just have to replace it though and buy more, the stuff in the other rooms is too big to double up in one room. Its definately a thought though, thanks.

I had the opposite happen.

My aunt and uncle have slept in twin beds pushed together for as long as I can remember.

Re: What's the longest anyone has had to sleep in another room?
My husband and I haven't spent the whole night in the same bed in about 15 years. Not because of the snoring/now ASV but because of my other issues. He used to wake up with all kinds of aches and bruises from my beating him up or swinging my arms and legs. The last straw was when I tried choking him in my sleep. On camping trips I've been known to try dismantling the tent while sleeping. My PSTD has been triggered the last couple of nights due to a rather trivial thing, so now the dog has decided she's safer in his room....

My parents have been sleeping in different rooms for 42+ years now. I tried to talk my dad into trying my cpap but he wasn't interested.
I use ear plugs every night because my girlfriend keeps me awake.

I didn't expect to hear so many stories of having to sleep separated from one another for that long. Wow I can really appreciate what those have gone through. Thanks everyone. Now I feel I can try another attempt at resolving this with all that in mind.

Re: What's the longest anyone has had to sleep in another room?
Hubbs and I have been together for 23 years. There has not been one year that we've slept together for a full year, not one. We both have our own issues. Over time it's become a part of the morning conversation for one of us to say joyfully amazed, "we slept together." We don't get upset. You do what you have to do to get the rest you need for the day ahead. I've been using the cpap straight now for a couple of years. I've lightened/spiced things up in the bedroom by making the whole cpap experience a matter of seduction you might say from time to time, I don't know how else to say it. I get a whole lot of eyerolls and head shaking, but it's all good. Wasn't that long ago we were going to sleep together and I had this thought and decided to play it out. I grabbed my mask pointing it towards Hubbs and made a comment. You should have seen the stone look on his face, totally priceless!!! His eyes got frozen big, stunned like his mind was registering, "She didn't say what she just said!!!" rolled over and proceeded to go to sleep. I on the other hand bursted out in laughter, couldn't stop laughing.
I know that he doesn't like the cpap truth be known, but I know he'd rather see me healthy and alert. Best of all, I know he loves me
