Unplug, or no?

I feel foolish asking this after almost a year on my machine, but...

Should I unplug my S9 when not in use, or is it ok to leave it plugged in? I'm about to reconfigure the bedroom (to add a bassinet, yay!) and the answers from the collective here may decide where some furniture goes (i.e. to block or not block plug access).

I never thought about it, but I leave mine plugged in all the time. I can't imagine it would hurt, other than the small effect it would have on your electricity usage.

FWIW, I never unplug my machine unless I'm experiencing really bad weather (lightning). Generally speaking, I don't see any problem with keeping it plugged in. Rearrange away!

I just press and hold the power button before I remove the card. I don't think it matters. Up to you.

I plugged mine into the Kill-a-watt meter.
Energy drain while not in use is very small.
Unplugging every day seems harmless; but a huge PITA.
I would still like access in case of an electrical storm.
A lot of our power lines are above ground--really hate to fry my precious.

I think most machines have builtin battery powered clocks for the data collection. I wonder if having it plugged in powers the clock or if the clock runs off the battery all the time, plugged in or not. When the battery runs down, you have to have it serviced. I think it requires special software AND hardware to reset the clock in the machine. (Talk about planned obsolescence/self destruct functions.)

If the clock does run off the power supply when plugged in, leaving it plugged in would extend the time until you have to have a service call to replace the battery.

On the other hand, it does seem to take a long time for the clock battery to run down. Has anyone actually had a machine with a clock battery that finally went dead?

All that plugging and unplugging is harder on the electronics than leaving the power applied.

For storms, a simple surge protector will go a long way (if your line gets a direct hit. you'll lose pretty much everything that's plugged in anyway...not to mention likely setting the house on fire.)

With most electronic components, switching them off and on is one of the things that causes them to wear out.
