Any singers out there?
Any singers out there?
Hi, I'm new to this whole apnea thing. I am currently using an Apap. sleeping pretty well. I am a singer in and my voice sounds different since I've been using the machine. Does anyone else have that problem?
Re: Any singers out there?
There was a thread recently with people posting that they thought their singing voice had improved since starting on CPAP (myself included.) I don't know if anyone said it had gotten worse or developed a problem.

Re: Any singers out there?
Maybe my muscles are a little weak because I have been through a lot lately trying 2 medications for narcolepsy that didn't work out and cannot find anything yet to manage the daytime sleepiness, which has gotten out of control lately. Mild exercise and singing seems like such a strain for some reason and I'm not able to push the notes out like I used to a few months ago before I started apnea/narco treatments.
Re: Any singers out there?
Fine tuning your humidifier usage will help here.. Probably will help to be extra vigilant/regular with the cleaning and stuff.
I'm not a singer (at least not when people are around me) but I am a musician, and can appreciate the effect it can have on people.
I looked at my water last night and saw it was low.. Felt extra lazy (it was 1am), so I turned off the humidifier rather than cleaning it like I should have. Guess who woke up with a sore throat.

Re: Any singers out there?
I love to sing.
I've been on CPAP for almost 18 months. I noticed that during the 4-10 months mark I lost some power and a little bit off the top of my range after I started CPAP. However, I think I am able to hit some of the lower notes a little better now. Also it seems to have stablised.
Not sure whether this is CPAP or just getting older.
Although I am wondering if the loss in power is because my respiratory system is no longer being forced to deal with 85 apnea events an hour every night.

Thanx a lot for the feedback! I will keep it all in mind and apply the advise to my life. If I hear of anything that will help us singers out I will post it.

My voice improved.
I had lost several notes off my upper range, and i just blamed it on old age.
Since starting CPAP, I have regained a fair amount of my upper notes,
and my timbre and control have both improved to levels I had not known for years.

Any short-term negative impact on voice should be offset quickly by the long-term positive effects on your voice. One key is never to sleep without PAP--even a short nap--in my opinion.Angeline wrote:Hi, I'm new to this whole apnea thing. I am currently using an Apap. sleeping pretty well.
