Nostrils sore

Post by SleepingUgly » Wed Apr 20, 2011 5:48 pm

The base of my nostrils are getting red and painful. I use lansinoh with the pillows. What else can I do?

Takes the soreness out. I use FX and this helped me.
So you rub this inside of your nose? I would be afraid of that. This is for sore muscles. All the reviews I saw was for topical (on the skin) type of uses. I understand using Lansinoh. I would be wary of this though.

Ugh, just saw they are forming heads. I had this last stint with pillows and it got really bad,but I don't remember if and how I resolved it or if that was around when I was moved to ffm. Need advice on what to use and also do I give it a break or keep using them and risk worsening it? Thanks

Ouch. Did you ever get the barrel cozy?

I have never had anything more than a tiny bit of tenderness when I first started using nasal pillows and I had things too tight. I used the nipple cream every now and then but more to see if it made any difference with seal than for discomfort.

Warm compresses to bring them to full head? Helps speed up healing also.

Is it possible that there is some skin sensitivity to the Lansinoh or its ingredients?
This has happened before? Sensitivity to the pillow material?

Do you ever use a nasal (non-pillow) mask like the Activa? It might be good to give your nostrils a break for a while, and a nasal mask allows you to avoid the issues with full face masks.

I get sores in my nostrils from using the FX with the Lanoish every so often. Mine is acne and I get a cyst just below the inside of the nostril and it is from the lotion blocking the pores along with the irritation from the pillows. I stopped using the FX for a few days, (used my nasal mask instead) and put some 10% benzoyl peroxide lotion on it until it heals. I also have an antibiotic I can use PRN for these. (Cephalexin) You will need to get a script from your Dr. for this. (It works very well on calming eruptions down)

I'm not going to use the Lanoish as much as I used to now that the weather is getting warmer. I get a better seal with it but it also causes these painful sores every once in a while, which, as you know, are not pleasant.

Two words: K-Y Jelly. Or Astroglide. I had the same problem. Had. As in the past participle of the verb to have. It completely cleared up the problem. Little dab on your nose-picking pinky, smear it around inside and out just before you engage the pillows and kiss your sores good-bye.

SU - Not saying you "should" but I had the same problem with the same mask. I went up a size on the pillows and voila! In my case I do believe a part of the smaller pillows actually entered into my nose at the inside base of each nostril and caused my problem. All of the rims of the larger ones stayed totally outside the nostril. I also believe with the FX most folks can effectively use a larger than required pillow. Doesn't take long to try it.

I use Lansinoh 'after' removing my pillows. When I used them on the pillows during treatment I got big-time leaks. I know you're hurting and wish a speedy turn around for you.

I'd lay off the nasal pillows for a few days if it were me.

Definitely give your nose a break with a nasal mask or FF mask until it feels better, then try again but loosen up just a tiny bit (if you haven't already tried my Swift FX fitting tips, that's the time). Going up a pillow size is a good idea, too, if you can get it to work (larger sizes always leaked for me).

But lay off the pillows for a few nights until your nose feels better--the skin needs a break!

Seriously, the K-Y is so soothing to my nose, when I forget to use it, even when I take a nap, thinking it won't matter, and then that night when I strap on, I feel the sores coming up, I just smear K-Y on them, and by morning they're nearly gone. And if you want to get fancy, you can take a drop or so of lemon extract and drip it in the tube, and it will smell just like Ayr Gel, at 1/20th the cost.

Is this a common problem for nasal pillow users?
