ok i've tried looking trhough the boards and can't find anything. whats the average setting for the h5i? its set as 3.0 as standard, but can't find anything in the instructions as to higher or lower settings and effects etc. ive only had it a week and the 29 auto 2 months, ive slept better overall but some nights its not very good. plus i jhave noticed the setting on the mask was set to full face, but im using the liberty mask with pillows, what do i set the mask too on the machine..

Re: H5i Humidifier
I believe the ResMed Liberty is considered "full face" mask since it covers the mouth and has the nasal pillow interchange.
I don't use your humidifier but my Respironics humidifier has choices from 0 to 5.
The higher the number the more the machine will heat and give more humidity. 3 is mid range and what I use.
Setting of 1 dried me out too bad. Used setting of 4 and 5 when I had a cold and the extra humidity seemed to help with the nasal congestion. Some people do better with higher humidity, some people do better with lower humidity and even with the heater off which is the 0 number.
I believe the ResMed humidifier use the general principal that the higher the number the greater the humidity that is put out.

Re: H5i Humidifier
ty i'll have to try the differnt levels see whats going to be better, got a little bit of a stuffy nose so may up it later and try that then, i have noticed a lot that my mouth and nose don't dry out now. i cant seem to find out what the differnce is with the "pillows" setting or the "full face" mask options, i have tried it, don't seem any different that why i asked lol

Re: H5i Humidifier
The mask setting on the ResMed machine only varies the leak report based on type of mask chosen. It will not affect treatment pressure.
The ResMed machine will automatically subtract the intentional leak/vent rate for the type of mask chosen from the leak rate and the leak rate shown is all excess leak.
Typically full face masks will have a general higher intentional leak/vent rate than say a nasal pillow only mask like my Swift FX.
So if you choose "pillow" on the machine as mask being used and you are using a full face mask, it could possibly report a leak rate that is falsely inflated. If a person used a nasal pillow mask like mine, but chose "full face" on the machine then it is possible that the leak rate is understated.
So the mask chosen on the machine setting does nothing to impact treatment but it can possibly give erroneous leakage data.
Does this explanation clear up your question?

Re: H5i Humidifier
Let me add one other bit just in case a newbie reads this thread and is using a Repironics machine.
Respironics does not automatically subtract the intentional leak/vent rate. We have to do the math ourselves.
Not sure what the new System One Respironics machines show on the LED screen but I think it might be only large leak. Software would be needed to evaluate the leak reports to get more accurate leak report if the machine only shows an average large leak. So while the System One machine may also have a mask choice it does not do the math for us.
