Chin straps available
Chin straps available
Is there a chin strap that would work with the Respironics full face mask? I'm having problems with my mouth opening during sleep that have resulted in apneas.

If you are using a FF mask it shouldn't matter that you are opening your mouth. That's what a FF mask was primarily designed for. Be sure that you do not have signifigent leaks. That could cause some of your apneas. What are your AHI/AI numbers?

Re: Chin straps available
LSAT, when I use a FFM and open my mouth during sleep, I wake up everytime. Nucleus, have you tried a FFM that fits under the chin? I am going to try that next and see if that helps me with my mouth opening, as I want to get away from wearing a chinstrap.
Re: Chin straps available
Based on a 2007 sleep study, AHI of 13.9/hr with a REM AHI of 51.2/hr, oxgyen desaturations to 80%. I've noticed the apneas only occur when I have had my mouth open.

How do you know this?
The CPAP you are showing in your profile is an 'auto'. If you have it set on 'AUTO' it should adjust your pressure to eliminate most apneas.
I'm not familiar with the Vantage...does it give daily data?

Technically, it shouldn't matter. And yes, that's what a FF mask was primarily designed for.LSAT wrote:If you are using a FF mask it shouldn't matter that you are opening your mouth. That's what a FF mask was primarily designed for.
This may apply to just me, but when I wear any of many different brands of FF mask or "hybrid" type of FF mask... when my jaw drops down in total relaxation, that changes the contours of the sides of my face so much, the FF mask springs awful leaks.
Also, when I mouth breathe while using a FF mask, my mouth dries out terribly. And that's with a very good F&P separate humidifier cranked up to the highest heat setting (I usually use the lowest heat setting when wearing a non-FF mask) AND an Aussie heated hose to keep every bit of humidification possible reaching me.
So, when I use a FF mask, I do use a chin strap with it. A homemade chin strap. An ACE bandage as a chinstrap, worn outside the FF mask. Just to keep my jaw from dropping down soooooo much.

Re: Chin straps available
Rested gal, I have the same dry mouth problem with a FFM and my mouth opening(maybe thats why I end up waking then).
Re: Chin straps available
I ordered a respironics chin strap from Amazon. Hopefully it won't interfere with the mask. I end up waking up with a very dry open mouth and the "auto" machine pumping like crazy.
Re: Chin straps available
I use a chin strap made by seatec with my soft gel mask don,t get any significent leaks or dry mouth ,check if cpap.com could stock this chin strap as it is well made ,durable and effective chin strap or can be ordered from cpapaust.com ,to minimize shipping cost order few and share among friends .

What are your pressure settings? What was your titration?nucleus1 wrote:I ordered a respironics chin strap from Amazon. Hopefully it won't interfere with the mask. I end up waking up with a very dry open mouth and the "auto" machine pumping like crazy.
