Does anyone have the S9™ Oximeter Adapter?

I'm kind of a tech freak, so being new to OSA and CPAP I have been looking at all the "cool" toys available for the machines. I think I have pretty much decided on the S9 (hopefully my doctor will prescribe the auto, but he is very against auto as he claims they wait for an apnea to occur, and then correct). Anyway, the S9 accessories page lists an adapter for an oximeter. Does anyone have this? How much is it? How much is the Nonin Xpod that it needs to work? I want to get a pulse ox, and was going to get a stand alone system, but seeing that this is available for the S9 is kind of neat.

Yes, unfortunately it is so.

Most people seem to think the Contec recording SPO2 meters are more than adequate.
Regarding which S9 to get, please at least ask for a trial of the Auto. I'm under 1 event / hr, and my SPo2 never drops below 95%. It works fine for me and I only get the pressure I require.

This seems counterintuitive to me. Why would Resmed program an after-the-fact corretion? Also, if that were the case then folks would not be getting the low readings that they are claiming... because the machine would have been too late in catching the events.

ALL the autos work the same way ... NONE of them can predict when your fist apnea will occur ... at least I've never heard of one yet that can do that

But they expect that when you have one apnea your pressure needs to be increased to prevent more. Having an apnea is a sign your airway has collapsed at least partially so you need more pressure to keep it open. So the machine ups the pressure until you quit having apneas.

Autos provide more comfortable therapy and for some it's more effective. Some do better on straight CPAP.

I used a Resmed S8 for years ( straight CPAP ) and now I have the S9 auto and it is giving me lower numbers and feels better ... for me.

Of course the S9 reports lower numbers because they have change the algorithms etc. from the S8.

It's one of those thing where you have to try it to decide how you like it and how well it seems to work for you.

Very possibly a great deal of it is psychological ... but if you feel better on one type of machine over another ... go for it.

This is just a followup to my above comment on it being counterintuitive that ResMed would wait for an event to occur before responding.

So according to the reference, ResMed responds to flow limitation. Specifically, the AutoSet does not wait for an event to occur before responding. It similarly ressponds to snore. Should an apnea occur (unannounced) then the AutoSet responds accodingly. Here is an excerpt from the above link:

<<Typically prevents apneas, by treating flow limitation and snore. These usually act as early signals for more severe apneic events
In the event of a sudden apnea that occurs without any preceding flow limitation or snore, AutoSet Spirit increases the pressure after the apnea has ceased to prevent further apneic events
Pressure response is based on the duration of the apnea
If no further events occur, AutoSet Spirit gently decreases the pressure, towards the minimum set pressure >>

I do. I have a Resmed adapter and nonin reusable probes. I have to pay something like 135.00?towards insurance. They say the unit is 2,000 It sometimes gives very high on the pulse on some nights. Think cause it was powered on before I went to sleep. Starts to count have to find out. My oxygen drops up to 45 min. under 80 percent.
