Hose management

I recently got the new Swift FX nasel mask. Previous masks had the small hose that attached to the mask around my forehead. I then ran the main hose above my head, and tucked the end under my pillow. The new Swift FX mach doesn't have the small hose attach anywhere but the nose pillow area. I don't really know what to do with the hose from the mask to the machine. I can't let it dangle, it pulls on the mask. When I try to tuck it under my pillow, it creates a large lump, and falls out during the night. Anyone have some ideas on hose management that would help?

Use a # 6 or #8 self tapping sheet metal screw to attach one of those velcro loops to your forehead. It works for me.
Hmmmm. In the alternative, you could probably do the same thing with some epoxy and attach it to your headgear instead but then you couldn't roll over if attached at the side.
I am going to be getting one of those PAPCAPS, even though my friends all think I'm talking about a gynecological device attached to my head and can't figure it out.... and will try to velcro a loop to the top of it or sew it on. Just a thought. I'm sure there are others. I also use one of the hose management systems to keep the hose centred above my head and perhaps that is all that we're going to need. I'll know shortly when my new nose pillows arrive.

(Just kidding about the #6/#8 self tapping screws, right?)

I sleep on my right side and lay it next to me across the pillow, coming from behind my head (my main hose hangs over the bed via a homemade hose hanger).

When I turn on my back or left side, I tuck the hose under my arm. I also have a pillow under my arm because of shoulder problems, so there's room for it to slide back and forth.

It's the one thing I'm not to happy about with the FX--that flexible hose piece is pretty heavy and does pull on the nasal pillows.

One other thing helps--UFO13's idea of sewing some velcro hook tap (the stiff side) to the inside of the back strap so it does not slip around on your head when you move. That gives a bit more stability to counteract the weight of the flexible hose.

Velcro cable ties are your friend.

Back in the day I had a cup hook screwed into my bed headboard above my head. I hung a velcro loop from it and had the hose hanging from the velcro loop. Kept the weight of the hose from dragging my mask off.

Not knowing what the word "sew" means, I found an alternative way to install the Velcro. I bought some sticky-back Velcro tape, cut 2 3" strips from the hook side of the Velcro. (Both strips are from the hook side.) I then stuck those two strips together, making a dual-sided hook strip.

Next, I reversed the back neoprene back strap on the FX. This moved the Velcro loop surface of the strap to the inside. Finally I stuck the Velcro strip made above to the middle of the back strap.

Now I have an FX with a removable Velcro hook strip on the back strap of the mask. The only negative is that it makes mask adjustment more difficult because the adjustment tabs are now on the inside. But once you have the strap properly adjusted, this becomes no big deal.

UFO 13 actually recommends using sticky back velcro and stapling it to the strap for extra security, but the ends of the staples are going to dig into SOMETHING--either your head or your bed linens.

I much prefer sewing. I get NON-sticky back velcro because trying to sew through sticky stuff is tough and it really ruins your needles and sew it with the sewing machine (it would not be fun to do by hand!). Zip, zap, it's done.

This set-up works really well for me.
The mask is a Swift FX, I have Velcro on the rear band to stop it slipping. The front band is a sweat band that's been
Velcroed to the rear band, and the hose again uses Velcro to attach to a Velcro patch on the front.
The support is the top section of a very flexible fly fishing rod blank that dangles the hose above my head.
With this set-up I can do 360 deg rolls without causing air leaks.
The rod is only just strong enough to support the weight of the hose.
The hose is free to run through the guides.
If I change to my Activa LT mask I just lower the rod in its holder.
The guides are 1 inch pvc conduit fittings that have been split length ways.

Do you catch any fish during your sleep????? I never thought of using an old fishing rod for hosemanagement. I have a lot of fishing gear and I'll have to give that a try. I have a fly rod that doesn't have enough rings that the line goes through so I'll get that out when I get my nose pillows next month and rig up some thing for hose management. Thanks for the ideas. I tie the hose to the headboard, right above my head, with cut-up panty hose. (not too tightly) It's stretchy and works great.

I use a ring-style towel holder mounted vertically on the wall, which can freely swing from side to side, and attach the hose with elastic ties.

I simply put the hose under the covers. It moves freely as I roll from side to side. Also, it keeps the hose warmer so I have less rainout.
