NEWBIE! ResScan 3.7 vs. 3.10? Cable vs. Reader?
NEWBIE! ResScan 3.7 vs. 3.10? Cable vs. Reader?
From recent posts, it looks like the VPAP Auto 25 is more popular than I'd thought. I figured out how to get clinician's menu, but I'd like more information, so I want to get set up with software.
I'm wondering about the software. Am I right that the numbering is goofy and that 3.10 followed 3.7? And is it true that some capabilities were removed from 3.10 that were in 3.7 (but 3.10 is needed for later models)? If I have an Auto 25, I could use either version, right?
As for cable vs. smart card reader, are there any thoughts on which is better to have? I'd have to unplug my VPAP to hook up here if I used the cable, so the reader sounds better...but I'd like to hear what veterans have to say.
And is there anyone out there who has upgraded to the next level and has an old card reader to let go used?
Thank you!

Re: NEWBIE! ResScan 3.7 vs. 3.10? Cable vs. Reader?
The VPAP 25 uses the same cable reader as the S8s do and did.
The VPAP 25 works just fine w/ResScan 3.7.
10 is a higher number than 7 so what is your question about the sequence of 3.7 vs 3.10?
YOu don't NEED v.3.10 for the VPAP Auto 25. But you WOULD need it for an S9.
ResScan is backwards compatible. It can even import AutoScan files.
I have both 3.7 and 3.10 and I'm not aware of any particular differences between them. There was a difference between AutoScan exporting in cvs format and ResScan exporting in pdf
What would have been nice would have been the option to export in either/or.

I thought the numbers were sequential in typical fashion, where 3.71 would be a minor update to 3.7 (or 3.70). In other words, 3.10 is a lower number than 3.7.
You haven't notice any difference between the versions, but others have said that the 3.10 removes some of the patient functionality .g., adjusting things) ...do you know if that's true? Is 3.10 more of a "brain-dead" version for patients? I suppose I can manually adjust with either, but perhaps 3.7 allows adjustment through software that 3.10 doesn't?
Also, do you suggest a data card reader or a cable?
Thanks so much for the time you've taken to reply.
Re: NEWBIE! ResScan 3.7 vs. 3.10? Cable vs. Reader?
I'm not particularly adept w/'puters. I use the cable reader. What do I know? I suppose if you have a laptop you can carry to your PAP the USB cable (am I calling it correctly?) might be more convenient, but since my laptop is old and SLOW I use the cable reader. It is a proprietary USB as I understand it and more expensive than the cable reader. What do I know tho?
I've used AutoScan 5.7, then ResScan 3.3, then ResScan 3.4 or 3.5 (I forget which), then 3.7 and now 3.10. This numbering makes sense to me.
Hmmm. You must mean making pressure settings via the software to the data card to the PAP device? Nope. It can be done, I didn't it once. But I've forgotten how and would have to go thru the ResScan manual or Help to figure out how to do it again. I'm just so used to make any changes via the VPAP Auto itself ..... what I don't use I easily and soon forget.
I'm currently trialing a PR SystemOne BPAP Auto w/Bi-Flex and working w/EncorePro 2.2 (HATE it compared to ResScan!) and I'm forgetting some of the ResScan abilities. Resmed DEFINITELY has the better software.

Re: NEWBIE! ResScan 3.7 vs. 3.10? Cable vs. Reader?
I think what Gondring is talking about is that in decimals you can drop the 0 so the 3.10 is actually 3 and 1/10th versus the 3.7 which is 3 and 7/10ths making the latter a larger number due to the decimal. I hope my math serves me okay here.
I, too, have wondered about the numbering so Gondring isn't alone in his thinking.

Thanks, sleepycarol. You're right...3.7 should have been named 3.07sleepycarol wrote:I think what Gondring is talking about is that in decimals you can drop the 0 so the 3.10 is actually 3 and 1/10th versus the 3.7 which is 3 and 7/10ths making the latter a larger number due to the decimal. And there's even another thread going on about this, so we're not alone:

Maybe they want to keep us confused --
Or maybe the programmer is some 2nd grader that hasn't gotten to decimals yet in school.
With some thought, I think it is probably the latter.

Re: NEWBIE! ResScan 3.7 vs. 3.10? Cable vs. Reader?
And does anybody know a source for new smart cards. Mine mysteriously disappeared, and two months of searching have not revealed where it is hiding. CPAP.com says the cards are no longer available.
BTW, I use Rescan 3.(0)7. I do not like it that much. Despite the much less granualr data, I found the Smartlink software for the IntelliPAP to be superior. But the VPAP auto 25 is a wonderful machine.

Hehe...I just lost my card, too. Is this what you are looking for? http://www.cpapaustralia.com.au/shoppin ... 22905.htmltimbalionguy wrote:And does anybody know a source for new smart cards. I take it you're saying that the ResScan software just gives general averages and general indices and there's no way to get more detailed results with my new VPAP Auto 25?

Try cpapworksllc.com I bought a pair from them.

Re: NEWBIE! ResScan 3.7 vs. 3.10? Cable vs. Reader?
Thanks for the advice on where to look for cards.
What my beef is with the Resscan is the ability to store only 2 nights' data at a time. The software is not immediately intuitive to use. And I don't like how the scales expand for more detailed viewing. And on a machine this new and sophisticated, I would expect the ability to record a night of breathing waveforms. Needless to say, I was not impressed by Resmd's software.

Wow! I wasn't aware of those limitations! Thanks for the info.timbalionguy wrote:Thanks for the advice on where to look for cards.

But then again, how do they check results after 6 months' usage, for example?
Also, I saw a manual for 3.10 and I thought for sure it had detailed graphs. Is it only 2 days of detailed information and more of summary info?
Re: NEWBIE! ResScan 3.7 vs. 3.10? Cable vs. Reader?
Say what?? You DON'T like how the scales expand for more detailed viewing???? THAT is one of the features I MOST like! I've been trialing a PR SystemOne BPAP Auto w/Bi-Flex for the past 3 months and prior to that I was using the VPAP Auto (Jan 08 release, NOT the VPAP Auto 25 released Jul 08) so my memory isn't fresh or reliable on ResScan and data from the VPAP Auto as far as how many days, etc. but I'm pretty sure it was 4-5 days of data, not just 2 days. Maybe I'm remembering from the S8 Elite and S8 AutoSet Vantage.
I can tell you that I am using EncorePro 2.2 and I dislike it and MUCH prefer ResScan!! EncorePro, the earlier version, and 2.2 were difficult to install and I found them much more difficult to use. ResScan and its predecessor, AutoScan, were MUCH easier to install AND USE than any of the EncorePros I used, including being able to use MyEncore and EncoreAnalyzer freeware w/the earlier versions of EncorePro.
I dislike EncorePro's manner of "graphing" events, etc. w/the slashes. I LIKE ResScan's including the LENGTH of an apnea in seconds.
I dislike that EncorePro doesn't show the pressure settings for each night. You have to remember to add a "prescription" when you make a pressure change because you sure can't tell exactly w/EncorePro. ResScan shows the pressure settings on the Statistics page for each and every night. The space allotted for any Notes you want to make is very limited in EncorePro. W/ResScan I've never hit the limit on space for any Notes I may care to make.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
