H4i Humidifier Problems
H4i Humidifier Problems
I use a H4i humidifier. I have had to replace (no cost) 2 of them because the metal on the heater plate bubbled and flaked off.
I presume the metal is anodized aluminum. I don't know whether or not the flaking metal would pose a health hazard or a safety concern with the heater. The DME was very good about replacing the unit.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: H4i Humidifier Problems
I've never seen or heard of this before myself. Have you been washing the metal plate with any substance? Or does water regularly get onto the metal plate? I'm wondering if it's then getting heated up and boiling and type of corroding the metal plate in some way. I presume it's metal plated, e.g. like gold plated, that there's some kind of plating going on with the plate if that makes any sense.
Re: H4i Humidifier Problems
I've had my H4i for five months and haven't had any problem.

I've had my H4i for five months and haven't had any problem. That's very odd that you've had it happen twice.
Re: H4i Humidifier Problems
Just use distilled H2O. I wipe / dry the plate and bottom of the tank before use. Could just have been a bad batch sent to my DME.

Do you mean the "chamber plate" (that is the one that is in the removeable water chamber/tub), or the "heater plate" (that is part of the H4i frame)?Gizmo wrote:I presume the metal is anodized aluminum.

S8 Resmeds are unsafe. The heater plates corrode and send toxic aluminum particles into your lungs. That's why they replace them so freely, and thats why they replaced it with the S9.

Re: H4i Humidifier Problems
I just took a closer look at the heater plate of my H4 humidifier. There are 4 small areas on the metal plate of the humidifier itself, that appear to be bubbling up although they are not flaking off. Never really noticed it before....hummm. The water chamber appears to be ok. Will have to keep an eye on it.

Re: H4i Humidifier Problems
Well I just replaced my H4, also because of bubbling and flaking on the warming plate on the humidifier itself. I was given a new humidifier and a new chamber even though the chamber was okay. Great service. Hope I do not have the same problem with the new humidifier.
Thank you Gizmo for your post. I would not have inspected the plate as closely if you had not mentioned this problem.

Re: H4i Humidifier Problems
Did they replace it as a warranty issue or give you much fuss about it? I just checked my husbands H4i and sure enough it has one little spot that is corroded and several places where its just started to bubble. He has had it for 17 months, I think I remember something about a 2 year warranty. I hope that's right.Ms.Snuffleupagus wrote:Well I just replaced my H4, also because of bubbling and flaking on the warming plate on the humidifier itself. Re: H4i Humidifier Problems
They replaced it for free as it was only 7 months old and still under warranty. My DME here in Canada told me they only offer 1 year warranty here.Did they replace it as a warranty issue or give you much fuss about it? I'll have to dig out the book and see what it says. I'm pretty sure the cpap had a 2 years warranty but I have no idea about the humidifier. I sure hope it's 2 years.Ms.Snuffleupagus wrote:

Thanks for the quick response
