What diet tips
What diet tips
What diet tips have really worked for you? I have tried every diet book out there. So far, the only thing that's worked for me is a raw diet but I never can stick to it for long!
Re: What diet tips
The trick is not to think in terms of quick weight loss and "diets", but to make small, informed, permanent changes about how, when and what you eat and do in general. Diets really, really don't work, or certainly for any length of time, but if, for example, you can cut out something small you've just been in the habit of adding to meals, but that you certainly could live without once you either replaced it or reduced it, then you've made a permanent change. If you add that to walking an extra block to buy a newspaper (or whatever) daily vs getting delivery, you've made a slightly larger change. Now cut back (or out, whichever you can do) on glopping sour cream on every potato you eat, vs just a small dab of something else with fewer calories, add that into the other changes you made and suddenly you're becoming a new person!
What you want to do is speak to a local nutritionist (or dietician) - NOT the quick fix diet people, but pros who've been recommended by your MD or who work at a local clinic, and explain what you want to do; they should be able to help you, though I bet you could help yourself by taking a look at what you're already doing, and thinking about how you can make small changes. The trick (and the difference between that and "dieting") is to NOT come up with stringent rules that forbid you to ever again eat any particular type of food, or that tell you to only eat ... carrots or cookies or anything else to the exclusion of other food. You shouldn't end up feeling deprived, just "creative" for having outsmarted your old self !

I totally agree with Julie. Quick loss = quick re-gain plus more. Success is not through a "weight loss diet," it is through life-long, modest changes.

Pristie,
A great place to start is the NoSDiet. It can be found at nosdiet.com. The premise is no sweets, no snacks, no seconds except on days that start with S (Saturday, Sunday, Special days) I have tried many diets and they are tough to do for the long haul. Since i am dairy, soy and gluten intolerant, it adds an extra layer of difficulty. This is not a diet as much as it is a new way of eating. I don't know how old you are, but this is how I ate growing up. There is a book but you do not need it. Everything you need is on the website. For someone who wants to change the way they eat, this is a great place to start. I have been on this plan for a few weeks and I have already started to lose weight. I have not lost a lot of weight (just a few of pounds), but the key to long term weight lose is slow and steady. Slow and steady will always win this race.

I think we discussed just about every thing out there.
Besides the physical issues such as allergies and body types most issues are emotional eating.
Most diets don't address why you eat beyond your hunger, and if you don't address it then the weight will come back on immediately.
