Error code E51

Post by Helen365 » Fri Nov 13, 2009 12:20 pm

I'm new to Cpap talk and I'm also new to using cpap machine. I have a E 51 code on my HC 244 Fisher paykel and i have no clude to what that means. I called my DME and they were like you will have to bring the in next week so we can see what it is. But, I noticed on here some do know what the codes mean.

Thank you, Helen

Next Week? What are you supposed to use until then? I'd be driving right over there today - with the machine. How old is it? Does it still work?

It may be time for you to find another DME.

It still runs and they are not open. They are only in the office on Tuesdays. There is another office but its further away. I would just like to know what that code maybe and does it hurt to run it. I have told them twice when visiting for my dr. appt that I thought there was something different about my pressure when I wake up in the morning I don't really feelin it running(pressure) like it did the night before..though when I take the mask off it is running. but I was told its probably because I have gotten use to it. So, that is one of the reasons I want to know what this code is to see if this is related.

thanks

E51 is an "internal memory error"

The machine will still run, but like someone else had said, best to get it replaced ASAP.

If I knew what the code meant I would have provided that info to you.

It sounds like they have some racket going. I thought they would have to provide service of some sort if they provide equipment. They should be able to tell you on the phone exactly what this code means. If you are happy with their service stay with them. If not escalate you request for service.

Thanks, cpaprrt they should do that when I go in tuesday. I have only had this machine about a month. I was worried how that was effecting my machine and me since the DME told me I could still use it until.

Thanks GumbyCT, The DME is with the Doctor that I go to if that makes sense. I have found a medical store who sells all the cpap equipment and they told me that I could bring my prescription there but they thought I would have a hard time doing that since the doctor won't make any money from me going else where. I have read on here where others picked their own machine out but where I'm going they pick it for you. The hc244 fisher paykel does seem like a nice machine though.

Usually when the doc owns or has a financial interest in the equipment part of the business it becomes a "money mill". How could the doc even care about the patients when s/he thinks in dollar $ign$?

Seems like a direct conflict to me and should prob be outlawed but until it is all you can do is choose not to partake.

While F&P does make some very good equipment - until recently they had absolutely no sleep therapy equipment that provided anything but compliance data which is of NO help to the end-user, YOU. I'm talking about software to determine if you therapy is working for you.

The sleep business is a ruthless money mill.

Good Luck and be sure to post your solution here so the next person will know what E51 means.

Before doing anything else, check and see if you have a clean air filter. Change it if you haven't in a while. From your description of what the machine is doing, a dirty filter might be all of your problem.

After that, file a complaint with the regulatory body in your State that oversees doctors and DMEs. Sounds very wrong on the part of your DME to not immediately deal with a problem.
