Fitbit

I ran across this while listening to a tech podcast. It seemed like something we CPAP users might find useful in our every day lives. I have no connection to this company but thought it was very interesting. http://www.fitbit.com/.

That does seem interesting! I'm not in the US, so it isn't an option for me. I have been thinking about a way to track my fitness activities for a while. Thanks for the link!

Guess its the evolution of the thing....

Years ago, I had a gadget that was like it....you docked it into a base that connected by telephone (broadband wasn't common yet). I forgot what the company was, but they went away....came back, but wanted lots of money to make the old base units talk to them. Don't know what happened.

Later some tech gadget tv show covered another like product called fitbug. I always thought I'd someday get it. But, at that point I had moved to a much less active lifestyle (I lived in apartment across the street from the office). Plus, at the time, it was a UK product but they were working on a US site....I thought about it briefly after I moved here.

But, decided I already have enough tech on me...and, at the time, I wasn't that interested in just recording my life (and I had no interest in changing my lifestyle).

While the latter has changed for me now....having another gadget attached to my person....well, I'm not sure I have an opening for it....

The Dreamer.

The fitbit seems to be a glorified pedometer, which uses an accelerometer and math to make a lot of assumptions about what you're doing. There's a similar, but more accurate device that uses an accelerometer, galvanic skin response, body temperature, etc. to get more accurate data: GoWear Fit (a.k.a. the BodyBugg, a.k.a. SenseWear...they're all the same device from the same company, branded and sold differently). Version 3 of it (the small square dark grey armband unit) also monitors sleep efficacy.

I actually have one coming to me Friday, along with the wireless wrist monitor.
