as i have my VA claim in for sleep apnea (just retired military), they sent me a notice to see a local ENT doc. I know they will want to perform surgery, but have news for them... aint happening. Been reading on sleep apnea surgery and is has so many cons against it, its pathetic...
50% success rate
long recovery time
very painful
usually start snoring again after a few months
Went to sleep doc today for a follow-up.... she told me with my test results of stopping breathing 70 times per hour, even with surgery i would never get away from cpap.... so why bother.
EriC!

Re: oct 7 will be interesting..
In my opinion you should definitely try cpap before you even consider surgery for treatment.
It MAY be that a small surgery for, say a deviated septum, may help you to use cpap more effectively but not the so-called sleep apnea cure surgery!
If it were me, I would certainly work hard at getting cpap to work before I would ever consider any surgery! It is certainly true that most who go through that terrible surgery end up on cpap anyway.
I think you are doing the right thing!

i'm with you, eric. surgery, in my opinion, should be a last resort...

Re: oct 7 will be interesting..
One of the things that I found out, is that I can never get the knifing done to me... of which I'm not worried about. Seems that because of my cleft palet(sp) that the surgery would not be useful for me.
I don't think that you have anything to worry about, seeing as how it is (i think) an elective option.

Re: oct 7 will be interesting..
I found out that this ENT appt has nothing to do with sleep apnea. It is actually for the hearing baseline test...
