How old were you when you got diagnosed?
Re: How old were you when you got diagnosed?
31 when I got the machine. Pretty sure for a couple years before that I had sleep apnea. I believe I too have had it for many years, perhaps since a teenager or even preteen.
A take home testing machine needs to be developed so anyone with fatigue, sleepiness can easily be tested w/o a $3000 bothersome sleep study! The take home machine need not be perfect, but only detect presence of OSA. Patient could still go to sleep study; but many many ppl (including me) can't afford sleep study. I got an auto machine 2nd hand, never got titrated or initial study! Its a scam. The labs have paid for these extremely expensive machines, and they want to get their money back. The AMA controls access to CPAP machines and supplies, preventing the poor from treatment. Our system borders on evil.

Well it looks I was diagnosed at the youngest age on this particular forum. 19 years old, but definitely had OSA for a few years now. My doctor recommended a sleep study since I could get a full night's sleep and wake up exhausted and just fall asleep in class all day. I'm on my 4th night with the CPAP machine, so the nights with the mask are a bit rough, but I'm already noticing a difference in the morning.

Welcome, BLut91. You are very fortunate to have been diagnosed so young! Many of us were quite a bit older when diagnosed, and the years of nightly oxygen deprivation really damaged our bodies.BLut91 wrote:Well it looks I was diagnosed at the youngest age on this particular forum. 19 years old, but definitely had OSA for a few years now. Good to hear that you're already noticing a difference in how you feel, after only four days. I've been using CPAP for 7 months now, and I feel terrific! I hope that things keep getting better and better for you. If you do have any problems or questions, be sure to start a new thread and we'll be happy to try to help.

Re: How old were you when you got diagnosed?
47.5 years old when diagnosed, went to sinus doctor because of complaints about snoring. He sent me for a sleep study, and that was about 5 years ago. I had only been snoring for a few months, and never had the classic "not breathing while asleep," but it changed my life for the better.
Severe machine envy is sending me back next month hoping to come away with an APAP, and a Swift FX.
I had no real issues for those 5 years so never went back to the sleep doc. I take it that isn't common.

I was diagnosed at the age of 16, since then i used the cpap and i noticed a big difference in my energy levels, currently i have been unable to use my cpap effectively because my inferior turbinates get my nasal pasages congested. I should hopefully get back to sleeping better with the cpap after my surgery, wish me luck! oh and im 17 now
Re: How old were you when you got diagnosed?
I was diagnosed at 42, but I've had sleep apnea since my at least my early twenties. After one night listening to me sleep, friends would comment on the very long pauses in my breathing and say they were worried.

I probably had OSA since my younger days and just never knew it!
