Rescan 3.7 detail data -changing computers

Post by tom@ » Tue Jul 07, 2009 10:37 am

Does anyone know the process to backup and restore detailed data from one PC to another?

When I try to do it I only get the summery data, and I would like to save my last 5 months of detailed data before I reformat the machine.

It's probably something easy I am overlooking.

It appears to me that all data for a particular patient is in the folder C:\Program Files\ResMed'ResScan3\Patients\LastName,FirstName. (Of course drive letter (C:) and LastName,Firstname will vary depending on your installation, and your name.)

Have you copied all of the files in this folder?

Specifically, I think the detailed data is stored in independent files labeled YYYYMMDD.rlk. So for yesterdays data a file of 20090706.rlk.

There are also files with the same date format and an extension of .tlk. Anyone know the difference?

I was trying to use the export feature from inside the software and thought I was just missing something for detailed data.

OK I don't have that folder, but I do have (Vista) C:\Users\Public\Documents\ResMed\ResScan3\Patients\{last},{first}\

I will see if I can move the yyyymmdd.rlk files and see what happens.
I only have 3 other files besides the .rlk files: Summary.dat, PatientDetails.db, and Notes.db, no .tlk files.

I will report back whit my results.

Within ResScan, the Patient Files can be moved to a new location.

First, setup the new location:
1) From the Tools menu, choose Patient Manager. A Patient Manager window will pop up. The first line specifies the current location of the folder and files. Write this down to refer back to it later.

2) Click the Browse Button to specify a new location. If going to a new computer, you can likely use a USB thumb drive, external drive or even network the two computers and work off a share of the other computer or a network drive. Set the new location to store the files at the desired location.

3) Using Explorer, copy (don't delete yet) the folders from the original source folder to the new destination folder.

4) Setup ResScan on the new machine and use the same process in step 1 and 2 above to point to the newly copied files. I have a shared network drive on my setup and ResScan manages the data on the network drives, completely off the Windows machine (which is Virtual). Makes it a bit easier to perform routine backups on the network w/o having to hunt for the files on different machines or locations.

5) Test out the new machine on the newly copied files. If all the data looks good, you should be good to go and can then delete the files off the original machine.

It's really a simple process. Just need to know where the options are in the software.

Good Luck.

HTH,

Robert
