Post by stephiemarie78 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 7:28 pm

I accessed the Clinician menu and found were it had the settings for SmartStart its turned off but theres not an option to change that. Anyone have any ideas. I have the Clinician PD and quick start guide =). I just got this machine today and I'm very exited.

I just figured out the answer to my own question, If Leak Alert is enabled SmartStart is disabled.

I believe that enabling Leak Alert disables SmartStop, not SmartStart.

The manual for my VPAP Auto (the Auto 25's predecessor) says:
"The VPAP Auto has SmartStart permanently enabled. When in Standby mode, the device will automatically change to Run mode when it detects inspiration of at least 6 L/min followed by expiration of at least 6 L/min."

This is copyed from the Clinicians PDF file

SmartStart™
If you enable the SmartStart/Stop function, the patient’s VPAP device will
automatically start therapy when the patient begins breathing in the mask, and stop
therapy when they remove the mask. This means the patient does not have to press
to begin or end treatment.
Notes:
• SmartStart/Stop operates for all mask types except full face masks (if this is
selected, SmartStart/Stop is automatically disabled).
• SmartStart/Stop is disabled when Leak Alert is selected.

Thanks!

That is very useful for me to know now, since I use SmartStart in my VPAP Auto every night and I have Leak Alert on, and now I know I wouldn't be able to do that with the Auto 25. No biggie. Just interesting. I wonder why they changed that? And I wonder how much else has changed?
