Flying

Post by Elbysmom2004 » Sat Jun 06, 2009 6:47 pm

I know this was asked below but I'm flying to florida in about 3 weeks. What should I know before hand about flying with CPAP. Since I will be flying with 3 young children total I have NO intentions on sleeping. I know not to check my CPAP but will I need a note from Dr or anything? I've flown with a nebulizer before and there has been no problem. It goes through x-ray and everything and they don't even check it. Will it be the same with the CPAP?
Pressure set at 15
Ramp:20 min starts at 4.5.

What they do is variable depending on the airport. Atlanta specified it needed to be removed from the carrier like a laptop but otherwise ignored it. LAX swabbed it the two times I went through the airport. The airports in Asia completely ignored it. I left it in the bag and no one looked at it or said anything.

Your CPAP does not count against your carry on limits. I am sure with the kids, you will be maxing out your carry on limits. To reduce questions, this thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=39072&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=tag has a free Medical ID Tag that you can print out and laminate and put on the bag with your CPAP. If someone says something about you having too many carry on bags, just show them the tag and tell them it is medical equipment.

Most airport security will (1) want you to send the xPAP through by itself, that is, not in a back pack or luggage; and (2) they will likely swab it.

I like to send my machine through xray in a clean plastic grocery bag. Remember, thousands of people's filthy shoes have ridden the xray conveyor or in the plastic tubs before you, so a clean, disposable plastic bag is a good idea to keep Mr. PAP clean.

Other than that, it's a snap.

Enjoy the trip.
