Keeping a diary (log)?

Post by Jason S. » Fri Jan 30, 2009 8:03 am

Has anyone found it useful to keep a diary of each night's sleep, issues, comments and including how one felt during the day?

You're so cute!

I have kept a 'diary' since starting New Year's Eve because I don't have a reader yet. It's very helpful. I can see a trend in the numbers if nothing else. I track leak, AI, HI, AHI.

Not only don't I have a reader, but I can't track the variables you mentioned. I was thinking more along the line of "Had a good night with only a few mask adjustments and woke up maybe 5 times. During the day I felt good, was not sleepy, had a slight headache," etc.

I think there is a value in tracking as you mention. Even without data, it can show progress (or lack thereof). If you end up back at the doctor with trouble, it will be more useful than a vague "not doing well" complaint. Just for personal use, you might want to include times slept to see if there's a trend of better quality sleep at certain bedtimes. It's good that you mention brief wakeups as an estimate. I know when I was keeping a sleep log I tended to get wider awake than need be because I was trying to retain specifics for the log.

I do have an area to note anything noteworthy for the night. Happily haven't have much to write most nights.

I started on CPAP therapy in June 08 and kept a diary recording how everything from physical and emotional issues dealing with getting used to the therapy, how long it took to fall asleep and how I felt the next day. It was invaluable to explain my progress or lack thereof to my doctor at the first couple of follow-up visits. I had a great deal of trouble in the beginning and am no fully compliant and can go back and see how much progress I have made.

Thanks, I am going to start one today.

what am i chopped liver? lol
actually it's a good idea. as mentioned it might make wake-up spells more pronounced because you start thinking - taking your brain out of sleep mode.

i know on my encore viewer( i wish i had pro..(hint hint)) i can add memos or notes on each or every page.

i found notating in the eve after a day at work i can still remember roughly how i slept the night before ... but more importantly how i functioned during the day..

i see a correlation between good days and good sleep and vice versa

I've never been able to get that function to work. Can you explain here how to do that with EV?
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.

i'd love to but mysteriously mine isn't working right now.
i had a crash last week and haven't got all the bugs out yet.
however i can tell you when mine was working you would click the baoon then click where you wanted to put it. then write whatever
here's the catch- in order for it to stay you would have to print it because when you closed the program it wouldn't save.
i used the "cute pdf"to save it in a sepereate file. if you search the fourum you will find the link. install the cute pdf to your printer file. then when you print the window will open allowwing you to select either your printer or the cute pdf

i will let you know when i get this running again as we probably have the same issue right now

but it DID work

until next we meet....................

Early on when I was dialing in my settings I kept a log with a spreadsheet of the readings and pertinent machine settings. After making machine setting changes I would record data for another week before making further changes. The log was *very* helpful during that period.

Now I don't keep a log or even use ResScan... but simply read the LCD in the morning for leak rate, AI & HI.
