I see lots of posts about data and smartcards. My unit's book also mentions them (RemStar Plus M).
But I think it's an option I don't have. Is it an add-on? Or would I need a whole new unit? I guess my insurance wouldn't spring for that capability but I'd like to add it if possible.

Your profile shows one machine, but you're talking about a different machine in this post. Any Remstar Pro machine will have a smartcard slot and is fully datacapable. Plus machines are NOT fully data capable. If your machine actually is the one in your profile and you don't currently have a smart card in the slot, you'll need to buy a smart card and the encore viewer software bundle from cpap.com. Then you will be able to track your sleep therapy properly. I hope this helps.

Re: Data Card?
If you have had your Plus 30 days or less, return it and ask for (diplomatically INSIST ON) a Pro.
Call your insurance company and ask what local DME CPAP suppliers they are contracted with. Hopefully you will have the option of more than one. That gives you some bargaining/negotiating room. If your current supplier won't provide you w/a Plus, one of the others most likely WILL want your business enough to provide it. And a Pro should NOT cost you one penny more than the Plus.
If you've had the Plus MORE than 30 days ..... you may or may not be able to convince your supplier to make the exchange. Good luck and God bless.

Re: Data Card?
If you have a Plus machine, it also does not have the data card slot.
My DME humored me and put one in my Plus machine so I went back to my Doc to get a prescription for the upgrade. It is the Auto .. but the DME wants it back ... so I went back to my Doc to insist I get to keep it from the data I presented.
So, if they do offer to put a data card slot thingie in your Plus .. walk, no run .. it will only give the compliance data which was totally useless in helping me get a better night sleep.
