I've recently been diagnosed with s/a and am waiting for my family doc. to get my titration results so he can write me a script for cpap. My s/a seems to be mild - my AHI is only a 6 - however, my oxygen levels were in the 80's. The reason that my doc. ordered a sleep study was because of my constant fatigue and loss of concentration (reading and writing is a large part of what I do each week). I'm curious to know how cpap has helped some of you with your concentration/short-term memory.
Thanks,
Sleep Apnea and Concentration

Brother you have come to the right place for knowledge & folks in the same boat as you. your o2 level tells the tale. ..................................... i can recall before starting cpap , while practicing with the crossbow i dry fired(no bolt)the thing 3 times and cracked the limbs. i have no idea how this happened other than the mental process was teetering . after almost a year feel mental process has improved , feel much less agitated, frustrated & more in control. basically a whole lot better outlook on life. Re: Sleep Apnea and Concentration
I not only had trouble with concentration. I also had trouble with problem solving, confusion, and short term memory loss. I would have people talk to me about conversations we had that I had no memory of what so ever. I'd also give directions to my team that they would reply were the opposite of directions I had issue before. I would sometimes had to read the same paragraph several times to understand it. It was like it was a different language. I would be speaking in a meeting and someone would stop me and tell me what I was talking about had nothing to do with the meeting.eutychus wrote:I'm curious to know how cpap has helped some of you with your concentration/short-term memory.
I started CPAP therapy in July. I'm also taking a med used to treat dementia. Today I've seen some improvement, but my doctor said it may take a year to get most of my mental functionality back.
Good luck.

You have definately come to he right place. Ive been on cpap for 8.5 years, although i was titrated at the wrong pressure. It wasnt until last spring that I found this site and learned to take charge of my therapy. I suffered from horrible memory loss, complete lack of concentration, I was pretty much useless. Ive still got a horrible memory and a really bad case of the "stupids", but I am light years ahead of where I was. most of this improvement came in the last 6 months af ter i got a new data capable machine. I strongly urge you to insist on getting one that is data capable for yourself and come to these fine people on this board for further information. It has made a world of difference for me as it has for many others here as well

Re: Sleep Apnea and Concentration
I too have better concentration - blamed everything on dyslexia, the big "M" (menopause) ; inwardly I always felt stupid - who knew we were just exhausted
Best wishes everyone.

Thanks, your stories give me some hope. I've been incredibly frustrated for quite some time now. I can't wait to get my machine.
