I recently discovered how important a white noise generator is for keeping me in a deep sleep. And I thought I'd share my discovery with you all. My sleep was plagued by modified exhaust, and truck tire noise. That is until i started sleeping with the white noise in the background. What a huge difference.
I searche ebay. I just didn't see anything that looked like it could be adjusted for my personal like.
Then it hit me. I grabbed my boom box, Turned on the FM radio. Spun the dial all the way to the left. Tweaked it a little to where it was between stations. And bingo, white noise. It can be done with any radio. And the cool thing is, if it has an equalizer, you can tune it for a rumble, or a hiss, or in between. Turn the volume where you want it, and you have a white noise generator.
I hope someone finds this useful.

Hi Gregg,
I wish I'd thought of that back in the days when I lived in an apartment, and spent sooooooo much time just trying to sleep with all the noise. I had it covered in the summers, with a fan or A.C., but didn't have anything in the winters. They didn't even make white noise machines back then. Wish I'd thought of the radio! I'm glad you found something. I know it can make a huge difference.

I picked one up years ago at Goodwill for $3. It's sold at Sharper Image for $40+ It's basically a fan that doesn't really put out much air. You can vary the tone by sliding some adjustable vents.

Since going on the hose, I haven't had to use it.
Hence, I don't mind the noisy vents and machine sounds. I live in an inner-city environment - I got tired of the constant ambulances, midnight skater parties, thumping stereos, random gunfire...
No more! I'm in blissful ignorance.
Hey, OKAY, SICK HUMOUR ALERT HERE! There's been the usual summertime rash of rapists breaking in through open windows overnight. I wonder if he'd back away from the bed if he saw me in my mask....
LOL,
Babs

A couple of decades (and more) ago, I used to do the "Sleepin' With the Radio On" thing.....and it was an older Pioneer stereo with BLUE LIGHTS. (still have it)
However, since starting my CPAP therapy, my machine and mask noises are my "white noise". The rhythmic noises of the air flow are all I need to sleep peacefully.

Haha. I never thought I'd laugh at cpap. And now I'm using one too.
So I'm the last one to discover this secret, I see.
I just want to share anything I can since this forum has given me so much. I'm alive this morning! I can't believe it. No aspirin. No fatigue.
And now it's off to hook up the motor controller so I can run my milling machine off the generator, since I have no electricity, so I can make a special tool, so I can disassemble the hyrdraulic cylinder on my backhoe, so I can fix the hydraulic leak, so I can finish working on the build site, so I can build a house, so I can start living on this property. Phew.

More importantly, if he did back away, do you think you'd be able to catch him before he could get back through the window?Anonymous wrote:Hey, OKAY, SICK HUMOUR ALERT HERE!
