'Never Used' Resmed S8 without serial number

Post by Pilgrim » Wed May 14, 2008 9:41 am

I won an auction for a 'never used' Resmed S8 Vantage. The machine is really new. However, I can't find the serial number anywhere. I understand that there should be a 'plate' underneath the machine.
Could it have been removed intentionally?
Could it have been a recalled machine that is being recycled back?

You should be able to get the serial number through the "Servicing" menu on the screen along with the firmware version and PCB version.

Yup, go into the Clinician's Menu and down to Service menu and voila you will come across the serial number. Should start w/the first 4 numbers being the year it was made. Its all one number w/no dashes or dots or anything. Just numbers.

You'll also be able to see how many hours it has been run for...

Are we allowed to ask about how to "crack" the menu protection on the S8s so we can access the configuration items like Pressure etc?

I purchased a few differnt machines from dealers in the US. 3 of them have the serial #s cut off - they were all new.

When I asked the seller why, one said to me his former business partner obtained them and was currently in jail for some kind of fraud.

Another that was a brand new top of the line model with 0 hrs on the clock and all the bits still in sealed respironics bags was actually sold by a pawn broker ( a friend in the US went to collect it after I bought it on Yahoo auctions).

I would not have bought them had I have known before hand but in the US there are so many people, so many products, so many cities & towns spread across a massive landscape, that it is hard to avoid oddities when buying over the net.

Another example was I paid $1 each for 2 older cpap machines. I bought them from one of the largest Medical resllers online. They were on eBay and listed as Ventilators. One was a Healthdyne & the other turned out to be a clinical titration machine with multiple functions (cpap, Autopap, Bipap & split night study). It probably cost over $22,000 when new (it was from the 1990s). It seems this med reseller bought the contents of a shutdown sleep unit & just wanted to clear all the stuff they couldn't sell any other way.

Have fun.

You mean it didn't fall off a truck? You know, like, maybe the partner found it fallen off a truck while he was on his way to do some fraudulent business?
And the serial number got bumped off in the fall?

As long as they aren't like those Rollex watches, with the Chinese clock works.

Maybe you need to take the case apart, and check if it has Hoover parts in it. Jim

They supplied cpap & other med gear to a NY private hospital. You would laugh loudly if I told you who bought the bulk of the remaining gear from these guys

Thank you, BarryKaraoke and Slinky.

I went in the 'Servicing' menu ... as instructed,
and WOW - the Serial number began with 2008 .....
It's a brand new Resmed S8 Vantage with 0000 hrs of usage.

I am barry barry happy.

Okay, now, when you want to check your stats for the night, BEFORE NOON, press the Left and Right buttons and hold them down for 3-4 seconds or so. Efficacy Data will appear on the LED screen. From then on its pretty self-explanatory: Left button to Enter, Right button to Exit, Up button to return to the previous screen and Down button to proceed to the next screen. You can't accidentally or intentionally change any of your settings in this menu.

The reported Pressure and Leak Rate are the pressure or leak AT OR BELOW which you spent 95% of the night. Or to put it another way, they are the pressure or leak AT OR ABOVE which you spent 5% of the night.

Do the M Series Auto or Pro have this in their menu also?
