cleaning schtuff

Post by Lipgloss42 » Mon Oct 29, 2007 1:13 pm

does anyone have a good tip for cleaning my humidifier? I stupidly used tap water in if for a week or more a while back and since then it looks cloudy. I have tried using vinegar in addition to my regular routine of dish soap and water. Nothing ever seems to remove the haze from inside the tub. I have the Humidaire H3i Heated Humidifier.

As long as it's clean, the "haze" shouldn't bother anything.

I agree. I have always used distilled, so this has not been a problem for me. You might want to up the concentration of vinegar a bit. The instruction manual recomends a 1 to 10 ration of vinegar to water. I find myself using a 1/3 cup measuring cup and doing a 1/6 or 7 ratio. I also shake mine a few times with the yellow top in position. The vinegar starts to bubble, which lets me know it's doing it's job.

Soak it in straight white vinegar for a few hours and see if that helps. You have scale. Vinegar will probably remove it.

Cheers,

Babette,

Thanks for the tip. I've tried letting it soak in a pretty high concentration before, but probably not long enough. I've had it soaking most of the day and it seems to be looking better. I'm gonna let it sit until just before I go to bed tonight and see how clear it gets. Thanks again!

I did the vinegar...then stuffed a baby washcloth into the tank, filled with water/vinegar/soap mix. Then put the yellow cap on and shook for a while. Seemed to work for me.
