An Auto may or may NOT help you. It most certainly has NOT helped me. I've had mine since November and still suffer from severe bloating and gas all day and night. I even lowered my pressure down to 6.5, as an experiment (recommended by Snoredog). It took me over an hour to get to sleep that night, even after taking Melatonin and Ambien, and during that time I passed gas 9 times. That was before I fell asleep. The air goes right through me. I don't even know if the treatment is working as I still don't ever feel "refreshed" from an 8 hour night of disturbed sleep.

I did go to a GI specialist and confirmed that I do have GERD. He didn't think I should have surgery to tighten the LES and he never heard of anyone having air go all the way through from a APAP.

From reading this forum, I think my situation may be unique, but you never know. People don't usually like to talk about their gas issues. But here we can talk about anything.

Nope it is not unique. I have the same problem and friends have told me they do also.

I have tried lowering the pressure, apap, A-Flex and C-Flex with no relief on the "other end".

Rooster,

Did you keep up on that thread about the Repironincs BiPap Auto SV vs Adapt SV? So you think that the BiPap would be something that would help us? Neither my DR., nor my DME has one for me to try and I'm afraid to spend $5000 for the same result that I've been getting.

I think I'm inhaling more air than I'm exhaling, so where else can the air go? I have my A-Flex on three and still feel as though I'm not able to finish exhaling before I have to take another breath. On my 2nd PSG they titrated me on a BIPap, but I had a terrible time with a leaky mask and there were 27 centrals while they were adjusting the pressures. I don't think it was a very good test.

I have been experiencing these VERY same problems most especially for about the last 3-4 months. I have been on CPAP since Nov.07. I finally decided after reading a lot of posts on this site that I would ask my sleep doc for an APAP machine. She was most accomodating and said she understood my problem. I too have GERD and the gas plus acid reflux was getting worse. Got my APAP about 2 weeks ago and I can truly say it has helped a great deal. My fixed pressure was at 12. My APAP pressures were set at 8-12 (by my doc) but I was still having problems even with the lower pressure, so I recently lowered the lowest pressure down to 7.4-12.0 and I can say that the problem has improved!! My stats don't look any worse in fact my leak rates are lower and my AHI is about the same as it was on straight CPAP. So, my advice is ASK FOR THE APAP!!!!! I am still having a little problem with GERD and take a Zantac 75 every day , sometimes even twice a day but overall my condition is much better. There is hope!!! Thanks to the kind folks on this site I have been able to really know what I need and ASK for it when I go to the doctor!! THANKS ALL!!!

I had tried lowering the minimum to 6.5 and max to 13.5 for one night. Air went right through me all night and my AHI went up. The next night I raised the minimum a little (can't remember how much) since the aerophagia didn't seem to be helped by the super low and I was wondering if I was getting enough air. Neither night went very well and I was so sleepy the next days. I'll try it again, this time lowering the Aflex to 2.

Thanks, Snoredog. One of these days I'll get some good sleep. You don't have a good formula for hot flashes, do you?

forced air in abdomen

Post by peasantldy » Fri Jul 11, 2008 2:53 am

Well I did see my Pulmonary Dr yesterday and she ordered me the Auto cpap with a setting of 3 to 9-hopefully it will reduce my gas symptoms-now the dreaded visit back to my Apria office and the impatient rude R/T's.My Dr says my insurance will cover most likely as its cheaper than another sleep study to determine if I can have a lower setting. Thanks to all of you and ocean breeze dreams !!!! Kt

Hi All,
I was just searching and reading to see if I could find help for my husband. You can't imagine how comforted I was to read your posts about the same problem he is having.

Ever since he received his BIPAP machine in Oct. 07, he had been dealing with gas and bloating of both the stomach and intestines. What we didn't reaslize is that he also had a small bowel problem that was identified two weeks ago and ended up requiring surgery.

He and I mentioned both trips to emergency that we believed his BIPAP machine was inflating his stomach, but they laughed at us. I could understand this with a small bowel obstruction problem (he ended up in surgery having adhesions and two internal hernia's repaired), but as soon as we tried the machine once he was home and mending, the bloating and gas have returned.

We have not contacted his PCP yet regarding this problem, but after reading the posts here, we surely will be. Thanks for posting so that we know we're not alone!

He is now terrified to use the machine at all (and frankly, I am as well). This doesn't help the

Welcome to the forum! Please keep us informed of his condition and what his PCP suggests. This forum is wonderful, in that we can all share our experiences and learn from each other.

Best wishes,
Bev

Old user,
Yes, this is definately an off and on thing with us hoseheads, even though my heart goes out to you because i've been there and done that so many times, the last part of your post had me rolling...
I just went through the identical thing a few nights ago and you are right, it feels like your having a heart attack or chest pains and also feels like your stomach is going to literally burst!
I hope you get over this soon, sounds like you are swallowing alot of air just like alot of us!!!

I've never had apnea problems, or used a cpap system, but seem to naturally swallow air while I sleep. As night progresses I have a harder and harder time staying asleep due to roiling in the gut. Symethicone tabs, like GasX seem to help a lot, just one a night the first time it wakes me up. Works for me!. Ted
