Hi - this is a link to an article about findings published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, suggesting that alcohol at any time of day increases the risk of OSA events in men. The study includes women, but didn't show significance for them in this effect. The stated increase of risk was 25% per drink per day.
In case anyone is interested in finding out more or reading the actual study, it's probably readily accessible at a university library (ask the helpful reference librarians!).

research re moderate drinking increases osa risk in men
From the above listed article:
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The more alcoholic drinks that men have at any time of day -- not just before bedtime -- the greater are the risks of breathing problems during sleep, a new study shows. However, this effect was not seen among women.
(2nd paragraph omitted...)
However, whether or not light-to-moderate drinking, at any time of the day, affects breathing during sleep has not been clear, they report in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.
What ?! greater risks... not clear.... hunh?

All I can offer is personal experience.
I've been on XPAP for a couple of years and travel out of state on the average once a month for 4-5 days/nights each time. I have a firm policy of no drinking AT ALL on travel. When I download my compliance (usually every month or 45 days), there is no difference that I can detect from the times that I travel and the times that I stay home. (When home, I'll have 2 or 3 drinks in the evening, most evenings.)
