Medical mitten use

Post by Pillow_down » Sun Oct 18, 2026 7:48 am

Anyone else use mittens to prevent their CPAP mask removal?

I've struggled keep my mask on for more than four hours for the past year, no way near the minimum of six hours my doctor requires, and prefers all night seven to eight hours. I also snore without the mask and have been waking my spouse.

I feel so much better when I do use the mask more than six hours.

While embarrassing, the mittens are working. I remove my mask less. I am trying to condition myself to behaviorally not to remove the mask. My one failed night I slept without the mittens. So the mittens went back on.

I want to achieve a minimum of 95% compliance 6 hours or more for 90 days and then tackle my poor 44% usage for the last year.

I'm a mouth breather and couldn't tolerate a nasal mask and mouth taping. I'm currently using an F&P full face Vitera.

Thank you. I feel so much more energized. So I'll keep using the mittens.

Three little kittens, their mittens they had lost,
And thereupon did weep, as though sorely crossed.

“Alack, dear mother, hear our woeful cry!
Our mittens are lost, and tears bedim each eye!”

“What ho! Your mittens lost, ye naughty cats?
Then shall ye have no CPAP, nor breath for that!”

“Meow, meow, meow!” the kittens did lament,
Whilst mother frowned, unmoved by their discontent.

“Then CPAP ye shall not enjoy, by heaven above!
Till mittens ye restore, and mend this grievous love!”
