what symptoms led you to suspect ????

Post by sleepcrapnea » Fri Apr 09, 2021 10:29 pm

I am wondering what the symptoms were that led people to believe or suspect they had sleep apnea?

Ex told me I stopped breathing for ? minutes (while asleep) then had a big gasp and started breathing again.

But everyone's different - I never felt daytime sleepy - so don't think you have or don't have it just based on others' experiences.

I used to commute by train daily. I found myself sitting down on the train, and waking up 45 minutes later when rolling in to the terminal. I would normally have read a newspaper or book during that time. Same thing on the return trip.

Around that time I once dragged myself out of bed, turned off the alarm clock and sat down on the edge of the bed. I woke up 15 minuted later, still sitting in my full upright position. It's a weird thing to find yourself sleeping while sitting upright unsupported by a chair back or something.

I told my doctor I had it and she scheduled the sleep study. The rest is history.

Excessive daytime sleepiness, sweating during sleep, excessive urination anywhere from 2 to 5 times a night, low energy...and the wife nudging me nightly to tell me I'm snoring, lol. But what really got me was her telling me I stop breathing then gasp for air (totally unnoticed by me) during the night. I attempted using a bipap machine in the mid-late 2000's for 6 months before giving up due to feeling no different. Did a sleep study recently to see what's going on and was SHOCKED to learn I was having 54 events per night. Scared me into trying cpap again. Only been using it a week now but I'm going to follow thru with this therapy for my sake as well as my wife's!

Waking up everyone else in the hotel room; then me waking up to everybody giggling.
Dozing off WHILE DRIVING, clipping a curb--but luckily no pedestrians.
Feeling like crap every damn morning.
Getting written up at work for falling asleep at my computer.
Wondering if I would be better off dead.

I wonder what else can lead to chronic fatigue? I got an in lab sleep study when it first started 7 years ago and it showed 0 AHI and no RERAs. I've been tested for everything, been to at least a dozen doctors with no cause. I wonder if my anxiety is causing my chronic fatigue. After a few years of fatigue I developed dizziness which is nearly constant and same whether sitting or standing. Plus I have very tired eyes and brain fog. Fatigue has progressively gotten worse. Sometimes I sleep good and have an alright day but 80% of the time I wake up feeling like crap.
