Cannot function daily life, please help!

Post by Countrygirl » Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:44 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm new to forum and i should be getting my cpap or apap machine this week or next week. I'm scared that it's not going to be able to cure my issue of being so tired everyday that i can't function a normal life. Has anyone else had this problem? Please tell me your whole story! Thank you so much in advance!

welcome to the zoo! stick with us and we'll get you through.

be advised that it can take some time (weeks even) to feel the benefits of cpap therapy. unless you have that one in a million doctor, you are going to need a lot of help to get your therapy dialed in. and we can help.

may i advise that you stay in this thread for the first few weeks? it will help people keep track of you and be better prepared to help you.

once you get your machine and mask, please fill out your profile. once you do that, your equipment will show up at the bottom of each post.

speaking of the bottom of each post, look at mine. there are two links, one to the newbie thread. this will help you get prepared for more information we'll be asking you. the other thread is the free tracking software called oscar. this is used here as a diagnostic tool and will be invaluable in your journey ahead.

<whew> that's a lot, huh? but right now, it's just gibberish and won't mean much to you. once you have that machine, come back here and let us know.

you can do this. you are not alone. it's going to take time, but you'll whip it.

good luck!!

Countrygirl, it's good to hear you'll soon be starting treatment for your apnea. I think it's very natural to wonder whether it will really help you feel better. It's a big change to a big part of life.

You mention "cpap or apap." Do definitely ask for an apap machine rather than a cpap machine, and I also recommend that you ask for a ResMed Air Sense 10 AutoSet (ideally "For Her"). This machine has a number of excellent features that can help you have a comfortable night with good apnea treatment. Sometimes you need to assert yourself a little rather than just wait to see what they give you!

You've come to a good community that can help you along the way. And one suggestion I'll make before you've even gotten your machine: don't feel as though you need to jump in immediately and start using it at night. Give yourself a few days at least to try using the machine outside your bedroom, set up somewhere comfortable so you can watch TV or read while you're wearing your mask and feeling the air from the machine. This can really help to speed up the process of adaptation.

And don't be discouraged and beat up on yourself if you need to increase your night-time use gradually over a week or so. No worries! Again, it's a process, and you'll find the whole thing getting easier and easier.

Do explain to your sleep technician or doctor that you are easing into things so they don't hassle you about "compliance." And do make sure you know what your pressure settings are.

Keep us posted!

Unfortunately, nobody can function in the normal way right now.

Hopefully, you will get your machine when you're supposed to. Try to approach it with a positive attitude and hope for the best.

The happy dilemma will be that you have all this energy, but you're not able to do what you want because everything is closed at the moment.

So, OP goes from please help me, tell me your stories, and “cannot function...scared” on Tuesday night to...crickets?

Is she trying to demonstrate her point?

Anyway, I appreciated the info you provided.

Well she did say this week or next week.
Some DME's are mailing stuff out.
Been there--my last supply box had TWO errors.
Not letting them mail my new machine.
I already told them I'll stand outside the door, so they can nudge it out to me.

After the virus goes full blown 10 foot poles may be in short supply, we may have to settle on 6 ft 4 in, for our go to standard. Jim

The 4 foot livestock prod can be quite effective, although petite.
Just keep the batteries charged.

Howdy y'all!

I just want to apologize for not posting anything back to you guys yet. I wasn't trying to be rude, honest. I haven't recieved my cpap machine yet, they told me they are waiting for insurance approval before they bring me in and set me up. I thank you ALL for your personal stories, advice, comfort, and support!! You all have been such a blessing!!! I will post again as soon as i get my machine. I'm very sorry for the crickets, however, the sound of crickets do help me fall asleep. 🤔🤪😁
Sincerely,
Countrygirl
