CPAP & Contact Lens'...

Post by VoicesInMyHead » Sat Mar 03, 2007 8:40 pm

Greetings. Last night was my first night on my CPAP unit - went fairly well with 7.4 hours and only woke up twice to adjust mask. However, throughout the day my Night & Day contacts have really given me grief!

I really don't want to have to take out my contacts every night, and I am hoping that the issue is not related to my machine... and it's just a coincidence. Has anyone else had contact lens issues using CPAP machines? Thanks for any info!

I don't wear contacts but I wonder if it's to do with the pressure. Sometimes the air can escape from your tear ducts, so it's all connected in there somehow.

Voices,

What kind of grief? Dryness? Pain? When my mask leaks into my eye (while I'm asleep), I will have swollen, puffy lids and dry eyes in the a.m. Try some drops that are formulated for dryness for use with contact lenses. I had Lasik done a few years ago so thankfully have one less thing to worry about.

BTW, cool avatar! Did I say that? No, she did.......

I have a couple of issues with my contacts.

1) Sometimes when I wear my full face mask, I get air leaks that do weird things to my eyes. I don't wear my contacts at night, but when these air leaks occur, occasionally I can't wear my contacts the next day. It feels like there's a rip in the contact or something. It isn't the contact though, it's my eye. (Typically my right eye.)

2) With my current interface, the ComfortLite 2, I have air coming out my tear ducts. It really only bothers me when my eyes are open (like reading a book). I know this isn't a leak anywhere else. When I close my eyes, I don't feel the air leak. I've tried to feel any blowing air with my fingers near the air tube, but I don't feel anything.

Not sure I could make myself sit through lasik... Me<Coward. Thanks on the avatar, I snagged it from somewhere and removed the animation.

Hi Voices,
I sleep in my contacts too, but don't seem to have any cpap related problems with them. I usually take mine out about every 5 days to give my peepers a rest and to let the lenses soak but other than that they do okay. I do keep eye drops on my nightstand and put them in as soon as I wake up so that probably helps keep my eyes comfortable.
Sorry I can't be of more help, good luck to you!
