Apple users: What do I look for as I buy a new MacBook to use with Oscar software?

Hi all,

Okay, you've convinced me to buy a computer that will allow me to use Oscar!😁. My current Tablet won't do the job. My Mac desktop finally died, and I'm leaning toward going with MacBook or MacAir.

What do I need to look for on a new Mac as far as using Oscar with it. For you Mac users . . . will Thunderbolt ports (USB-C?)work for hooking up a card reader, and what specific current card reader would you suggest for an Apple Laptop? Will I need an Apple adapter for the ports?

Any tips pertaining to my purchase of an Apple Laptop with regard to using Oscar software on it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Joy,

I'm not a MacBook user, instead using an iMac.

OSCAR should run problem free on newer MacBooks, the only challenge being getting the data from your CPAP to the Mac.

As you've noticed, MacBooks no longer come with SD Readers, nor traditional USB-A connectors.

One consideration is, an SD Card Reader with a USB-C connector. If going this route I would get a combo device that provided other ports as well:

I have the 2013 MacBook Pro with a SD card reader. Oscar "works" on this computer but because my CPAP machine is a brick I don't get data. :lol:

Any of the newer MacBooks will work. Probably older ones too, but I'm less familiar with them. Anker is generally a good brand for adapters, with good customer service--my MacBook Pro has only USB-C ports, and I use this adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PPGWQ15/

Thanks for the suggestions regarding a USB Hub Adaptor that has multiple ports including a card reader!

I won't be buying a MacBook "Pro" - either a MacBook or Macbook Air. I'm sure I'll have more questions for the forum after I visit the Apple Store near me. You've helped prepare me with what I might want to ask the Apple rep.

Sorry, I meant to say if you don’t have a USB-C port but have an older-style USB port (1.0, 2.0, 3.0), the adapter above will work
