Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto clinician settings

Post by Rob K » Wed Mar 27, 2019 7:46 pm

I have a PR Apap and today I received a Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto bilevel machine.
Thanks metsfan302

I just requested clinician manuals for my two machines, but in the meantime I'm hoping to figure out the settings and maybe use the new Vauto tonight. This is my first bilevel machine and I'm not clear on these settings. Max Ipap, Min Epap, PS, Ti Max, Ti Min, Trigger and Cycle.

My PR settings:
Apap mode
Min 10.5cm
Max 15cm
A-flex 3

These are the settings I think I need to start with for the Vauto:
Mode Vauto
Ipap 15cm
Epap 10.4cm
PS 3cm
This will give me the same settings as my old apap and be a good starting point, correct? I really don't have any idea where to set Ti Min, Ti Max, Trigger and Cycle or do I have any idea what they do. Will the clinician manual explain this? On a side note the owners manual is quite vague also. Wish they wouldn't dumb it down so much.

Also what is the Essentials mode? Best I can figure out with some reading is that it's the same as Vauto mode.

Thank you for any help.

The System One settings of
Minimum 10.5
Maximum 15.0
With AFlex 3
would give you roughly 10.5 on inhale and 8.5 on exhale. Flex of 3 isn't a straight per cm drop per setting. The most it can do is 2 cm drop and that's if you have a strong forceful breath. It comes off IPAP to give you EPAP

With the bilevel
PS is added to EPAP to get IPAP so you have to back it off if you want to match the apap settings.

EPAP minimum 8.5
PS 3 will give you 11.5 on inhale or IPAP
PS 2 will give you 10.5 on inhale

Those other settings, Trigger, Ti min and whatever...don't mess with those. Leave them at the default settings for now until you see how to do. Most of the time the default settings work fine for most people.

Leave the settings such as Ti min, Ti max, cycle and trigger to the default settings. They are mostly used for people with special concerns such as lung disease or diaphragm weakness.

That makes sense now the more I think about it.

So I set it to:
Vauto mode
Max Ipap 15cm
Min Epap 8.5cm
PS 2cm

Will not mess with Ti min, etc.

What is the Essentials mode? That's the last one I couldn't figure out how to set.

Set essentials to PLUS. That will give you a more complete Sleep Report.

So I'm pretty sure I have the pressure settings the same as my old machine. Breathing is noticeably easier. It seems like I'm breathing against less pressure. It feels more natural and I like it. Sleep report said AHI 1.1

I was going to look at my data, but my computer won't recognize the Resmed sd card. The drive letter doesn't even come up in Windows. The Vauto seems to accept it just fine. Not sure what's going on. Any chance the Vauto uses some other format that windows does not recognize?

Using Windows 7 and all my other cards work just fine.

Nope, the VAuto (and all modern resmed machines) use a dos format sd card.

Pretty sure I have it figured out. My old PR machine uses a 2gig sd card which my computer recognizes. The new Resmed Vauto has a sdhc(guessing 4gig) card and it is not recognized by my computer. I pulled the 4gig sdhc card out of my camera and it also is not recongnized by my computer. A little research and it turns out neither of my external sd card readers that plug into the usb ports on my computer will work with high capacity cards. I guess I could use one of the smaller capacity sd cards that I have in the Vauto, but would be better off getting a new sd card reader instead.

Indeed.. they're cheap, and you might want to pull some pics off your camera :)

New sd card reader did the trick. Looking at the data in Sleepyhead I see the Resmed flags fewer things. At least I have some graphs to go off of now for tweaking settings. AHI still around 1 give or take. Haven't noticed any big difference between the Vauto and the old PR other than the breathing seems more natural with the Resmed. This in itself is pretty nice. The climateline hose is pretty stiff and annoying compared to the PR heated hose. I probably could get a different hose since I just about never use heat.
