Still can't sleep after 2 yrs

Post by barky2 » Sat Nov 24, 2018 8:32 pm

It's been 2 yrs since I was diagnosed with mild OSA and I am still having trouble sleeping through the night. I have discovered that while I fall asleep with my mask on, because I'm usually so tired, I wake up after an hour or two and when I try to go back to sleep I lie awake with my mask on for so long, maybe half an hour to an hour, I can't go back to sleep because I am uncomfortable, I think at least, so I take it off, and then I fall back asleep, then since I fell asleep without my mask on I wake up again gasping for air, and this goes on again and again all night!

I do have issues with insomnia and paradoxical insomnia. I try not to take Ambien 5mg but usually that's the only way I sleep through the night.

I have to wear a full face mask since my nose gets stuffed a lot, I've tried a lot of different masks and settled on the airfit F20, but I do sleep on my stomach and that's not going to change.

I am getting a Gravity Blanket for Christmas, I have read great things about them helping people sleep so I'm hopeful this will help.

What would help more would be if you tell us which model of what brand of machine you have, what the settings are, what spec. mask you use (and if you've ever tried others), how tight or not you keep it, along with whether or not you take meds (which ones?). Then we might have something to go on to help with.

My machine is a resmed airsense 10, it is set w a 5 min ramp at 6 then set at 11. I am currently using a resmed airfit F20 mask but have used an N20 and F10 by resmed, a Dreamwear Nasal Pillow, and an Amara View. I have also tried some other variations of nasal pillows an FF masks, most of the popular brands. I take Ambien 5mg but not every night, I try not to. I have been having a very hard time falling asleep with my F20 mask on lately. Tonight I am going to try some of my other masks, I have my Dreamwear and N20 ready, also the F10 in a Med, I usually wear a Sm. I have trouble w nasals since my nose gets stuffed a lot but at this point I am trying everything to avoid taking Ambien to sleep through the night. Thanks.

Have you tried Melatonin as a sleep aid? It has few side effects, and is inexpensive, and supplements the melatonin that your body produces.
Check it out online - this article could be a good start https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingre ... /melatonin.
Another sleep-aid that seems to work for some people is to sleep in as dark a room as possible, as light reduces the level of melatonin

I have tried Melatonin unsuccessfully. I am a very light sleeper, I cover every light in my room, even the light on the microwave in the kitchen down the hallway! I have never slept in a car, a plane and I was even on an overnight trip on a train and could not sleep a wink.

I am going to make a sep post about the gravity blanket.
