what causes high ahi's

Post by debdix » Wed Oct 24, 2018 7:50 pm

I have been getting ahi's lately. Last night was 12. My mask seal was good. I am using resmed 10 with nasal mask and chin strap

Just depends on what the AHI is composed of before we can start trying to know what is maybe causing them.
Also depends on if you were actually sleeping or not.

Which AirSense 10 machine do you have?

The AHI is composed of 3 different categories....need to know those categories before we can hazard a guess as to the why they are happening.

Also need to know your pressure settings and if you are using exhale pressure relief (EPR) or not.

AHI - Apnea:Hypopnea Index - how many apneas (obstructive) and/or hypopneas you have overnight (per hour). You can also have central apneas, but the 'regular' machines don't track those.
An apnea is caused by your throat being narrowed so that not enough air gets in - the machine pumps just a little extra air (not 'oxygen' as such) in to hold your airway more open and allow more air in.

What is the exact model name of your machine?

AirSense 10 CPAP
AirSense 10 Elite
AirSense 10 AutoSet
or AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her

When you have time please add your equipment to your profile.
wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile
It matters because not all of the above machines will give you the data needed to accurately try to answer your question.

Did you ever get SleepyHead up and running?
If so...can you post a detailed report from one of those high AHI nights?....assuming you don't have the half assed brick AirSense 10 CPAP.

The causes for flagged events will depend on what kind of event is being flagged.
