Resmed S9 noise

Post by hummer3d » Mon Jun 25, 2018 7:47 pm

I recently purchased a used S9 Auto CPAP with heated humidifier . I have just started using it .I love it the it's very quiet but I do have one question about a noise I'm hearing. When I exhale using a regular hose and dreamwear nasal mask I noticed that it has a whistle coming from the water chamber area. Is this normal for an S9 Auto?

I've heard strange whistling sounds with my S9 before, part of it was coming from an elbow I'd added to the back to make the hose route better, and the other part was coming from the hose itself... like those 'whistles' you can get that look like a ridged tube, if you've got a hose that isn't smooth enough inside, it can set up resonances.

You can get hoses quite cheaply from amazon and ebay. Try a different one.

Thanks for suggesting new hose. Mine are ancient and I hear that slight noise on exhale, some times louder than other times. Will get some new hoses.

Hopefully that'll fix it for you :)

If you have had your humidifier discounted from the CPAP check the little seal in the humidifier's intake port. In repairing CPAPs for work I have seen a lot of S9's with this seal folded over and leaking.

The irritating thing is that the hose noise can sometimes do a nice job of imitating the sound of a bearing going bad. I HATE that! The ResMed branded slimline hose did the trick for me.
