DT3500 Card Reader Problem
DT3500 Card Reader Problem
I just got my card reader I ordered from two-factor.com, but can't get it to work. The reader looks like it installed ok, but does not show up like my photo card reader does. If I go under control panel, system, hardware, device manager, it shows up and says it's working properly. I installed the Encore software also and that says 'SmartCard reader not detected'. When I slide the card in, the light goes green, but after a few seconds goes red. Just wondering if anyone has encountered any similar issues. Thanks.

Re: DT3500 Card Reader Problem
Its not a memory card so it won't show up like your photo card reader does.kered wrote: The reader looks like it installed ok, but does not show up like my photo card reader does.
Which did you install first? Encore Pro or the driver? The driver must be installed afterwards for Encore Pro to know about it (very dumb I know)kered wrote:I installed the Encore software also and that says 'SmartCard reader not detected'.
Also make sure you are using the Encore Pro specific driver and not the one that came with the smartcard.
1. The card read should be UNPLUGGED when you install the software.
2. You have to use the correct driver, one that comes on the Mako CD is wrong driver (2800.sys).
3. Go back to 2factors.com and select the DT3500 reader and download the EncorePro driver from their site.
IF the driver you have is installed correctly, open up EncorePro Application, select Preferences/System Settings, select card reader type as USB.
Create a Patient Profile for yourself, select it first, then insert the card and select Download Data/Smart Card
Tell it to display Detailed data, and NO to Erase card.

Still not working
I uninstalled the card reader and then started over. I ran the Encore installation I got with the software (v 1.7) and rebooted as indicated. When I plug the reader in, it still does not recognize it and says new hardware found and kicks off the installation wizard. The wizard looks for the 2800.sys driver. When I try to point it to the Encore file, it does not accept it. (I believe it's because it's looking for a driver file and the installation is an whole executable program). On the two-factor.com site, they also only give an executable file, not just the driver.
I've also tried the installation file from the two-factor.com site with the same result. I've tried with the reader unplugged and plugged in. Not sure if I've got something stuck in the registry from the initial installation with the 2800.sys driver or what....
Anyone know where I can get just the driver for the Encore installation? Maybe if I install it with the 2800.sys driver, which allows it to be recognized, then update the driver with the Encore installation driver???
About as frustrating as sleeping with a mask...
Thanks,
Ed

Re: Still not working
That means a driver for that device has not been installed yet. Unplug the smartcard reader. Run the installer from the two-factors site and then plug the smartcard back in. It should then detect the reader.kered wrote:When I plug the reader in, it still does not recognize it and says new hardware found and kicks off the installation wizard.
The executable file is what you want. Run it and it will install the driver that you need.kered wrote:On the two-factor.com site, they also only give an executable file, not just the driver.
Install the driver with the reader unpluged.kered wrote: I've also tried the installation file from the two-factor.com site with the same result. I've tried with the reader unplugged and plugged in.
Do the following:kered wrote: Anyone know where I can get just the driver for the Encore installation? Maybe if I install it with the 2800.sys driver, which allows it to be recognized, then update the driver with the Encore installation driver???
1. Unplug the reader
2. Go into the control panel and remove any drivers that you may have already installed for the smartcard.
3. Run the executable from the two-factors site. This will install the correct driver.
4. Plug in the reader and the wizard should automatically find the driver
5. Go into the Encore Pro preferences-System settings and make sure the reader is set to USB
PM me if you are still having trouble.

Next Problem
OK - I finally got it working (almost). First, I installed everything on another computer in the right order and it actually does use the 2800.sys driver, but evidentally the Encore version does something else in the Encore software to allow the card reader to be recognized.
In case anyone searches for this problem, what I did to correct was run the Encore software for the card reader (this is after the Encore is installed). Then after it reboots, plug in the reader and it says it found new hardware and the install wizard comes up. When it asks for the software, I inserted the CD that came with the reader. It finishes and it's now recognized. Horray - almost.
Ok, new problem is that when I go to download the data. It says the patient on the card does not match any current patient. I have created myself as a patient, but if I use the SmartCard Utility from Encore and preview the card, there is no patient name on the card - it's blank. Didn't think it would work, but I tried creating a patient with no name but the name is a required field and it does not allow it.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ed

You could have just clicked past that "current patient" message. It occurs when there is no patient name on the card (blank or a different name). If you set up your card with your name (the way you have your name in the patient list) and patient number "01" (is what I use) on the second line, then you won't get that message the next time, but it will erase your card when you set it up.kered wrote:Ok, new problem is that when I go to download the data. Works
I kept playing and it's working. I double clicked on myself as the patient and it opened up another more detailed screen. That had another download option which I selected and it worked!!! Now I go back to the original screen and it will download from there too. (I love software) Now to start deciphering...
Thanks for all your help!!!

Thank you all for the help, Last night was my first night on the hose and this evening I have been trying to get encore and my reader setup. This posting helped fix the problems I was having.
My first night went well, 9.5 hours on the hose without a problem, now to see what the data say's
