Anyone here using an oxygen concentrator?

Hi all,
Does anyone here use an oxygen concentrator, a portable one?
I’ve been looking them up recently and it seems the lowest possible LPM is 0,5 liters. Or are there any concentrators that go even lower? I mean, what would they use for a small child or little person?

half a liter a minute isn't much.

Many oxygen concentrators use flow controls that set the flow, I use a big one but I would think they would all have a flow control. Like a car most have steering wheels. Jim

I thought the same 1/2 L is close to none!

Isn’t there a way to explain what kind of effect 0,5 lpm will have?
What will happen if it turned out you don’t need extra oxygen?
I dunno I’m just scared because I know too much oxygen can be dangerous.

Then why do you thing you need O2? How are you going to use it? If it to add into XPAP 2 LPM is the normal script, I use 3 LPM, because I know half of it is going to be lost due to vent mix.

With a finger O2 sensor I was at 92, for years with and without XPAP O2. Worrying about too much is unlikely, unless you go crazy using it. 2 to 3 L is pretty safe, I'd be more concerned with fire hazards, open flame smoking ect. Jim

Mixed into the XPAP Air Stream, Directly into the nose I'd use 2l Unless the Dr. calls for more. I follow my Dr's settings, except for XPAP use. Using O2 with XPAP, requires full flow, NOT Pulsed Flow.

oximeters are cheap, if you want to play around with oxygen, do it, and see what any particular flow rate does for *YOU*.

Do you really need portable? POC simplygo would be 0.5-2.0 but what if you want 3.0?

I would think that would depend of how hard you wrer working out, and how long, and you physical condition, as you can see there are too many variables
to make any rules, plus no one is the same, nothing would apply.

Also most meters aren't made to use with exercise period. Jim

If the doc thinks you need an oxygen concentrator, s/he will determine how much and how LONG. They know what's available. When my late Dad first got an oxygen concentrator, he was on the lowest setting for 4 hours a day. As his heart got weaker, doc first increased the hours per day and then increased the setting.

Hold off until you know what you need because Medicare (I'm just assuming you are on Medicare) will only pay for one machine every 5 years. So, if you need a portable, then you get a portable. If you need oxygen overnight, you have to get a non-portable one that attaches to your cpap. You can't use a portable machine with your cpap because they operate differently. BTW, if it comes to that you need both, use Medicare (or insurance) to get the portable and pay for the non-portable yourself. Big price difference.
