Tell me : I am super smart... or idiot
Hi all,
I'd like to know what you think about an experiment I made last night.
My life changed when I received my CPAP 5 years ago. I was extremely tired and immediately gained back a normal life.
The last 6 months, the fatigue/tiredness came back and I'm trying to understand what's going on.
When I read my CPAP data : all good, my AHI is very low (0.5/h).
Do I still have apnea ? I understand the data can't tell as the AHI number shows the result AFTER what the CPAP "fixed".
So, my last night experiment ? I changed the setting. Was 4/15 and I set 4/5. I thought it would be like no real therapeutic
help but still checking my apnea events.
Result: still no apnea event at all. IHA <0.5 per hour
Should I consider my CPAP and I can divorce?

Unless you had a Tracheostomy procedure there is no cure for sleep apnea
one night data is not a trend.

Without a new sleep study you can't make that conclusion. You may be lucky in how well you're doing - because you've used Cpap so long, but that doesn't mean your symptoms won't return in a short time (if not immediately) if you stop using it. Too many variables to cover. Use Sleepyhead for a few wks to see all features involved and decide if you possibly could e.g. raise or lower something to experiment for a couple of nights (not just if you feel the same but whether SH shows any change), but regardless, get a new sleep study if you think you're doing well. Have you lost weight?

While a pressure of 4 is considered very low it still has therapy value.
Maybe you had no events of significance...maybe the setting of 4/5 was enough to keep the airway open.
Only way to know for sure is to have another sleep study without cpap.

What Pugsy said. I also consider the following to be important and still true:
That said, you are certainly no idiot. You are posting and asking questions here. Only super-smart people do that. With a very few notable exceptions.OSAHS is usually considered a lifelong condition, and the patient who drops out of medical care constitutes a worst-case scenario for sleep specialists. Data on unresolved OSAHS have shown the medical community what adverse physiological effects can occur. Furthermore, the patient’s quality of life is detrimentally affected by untreated OSAHS, and treatment cessation increases the odds of a return to pathology.--http://www.sleepreviewmag.com/2000/09/c ... treatment/

We have both kinds here, some play the same person. We also have fools, disruptors, the lonely attention seekers. Like real life, something for everybody.
I'd stay with my treatment, it's only air (except cleaner). Jim
I can't see a downside to using mine, I don't spend much time obsessing over mine I just do it, the same as all the other things I have to do to make my life better.
I will say if I had my pressure start at 4cm (it is 14.5cm), I'd be dead, I require air to breath.

Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

I, being the lonely, foolish disrupter that I am, thank you deeply for that attention!Lucyhere wrote: . . . welcomed . . .

I lost 50 pounds and do not have sleep apnea any longer, so there is a cure for sleep apnea.

Unless you have had an overnight sleep study, you don't know this. There is no place that documents that sleep apnea is curable.jerryez@cox.net wrote:I lost 50 pounds and do not have sleep apnea any longer, so there is a cure for sleep apnea.
If you think you are cured, why are you spending time on this board?

If you really believe you are cured of sleep apnea, try getting LIFE INSURANCE.
