Fogged up Memory

Post by seenas » Thu Sep 07, 2006 9:34 pm

Hi,
I have been on my cpap machine for 3 weeks. When the RT where I had my sleep study she asked me whether I had a problem with my memory. I thought about it a minute and stated "NO". I did not have a clue that due to my OSA my thought process was not up to par. My rationale was due to the high stress of my job it took me longer to make a decision.and did not have a clue as to the true cause. Each day since I have used this Cpap machine I feel that my memory is sharper than the next and I am back to multitasking. I realize now I was definitely "fogged" Have any of you have had similar experiences?

I agree on the memory thing, most of which I used to blame on 'old age'
But seriously, yes, my memory has improved a bit. But the longer you've been on therapy, I think you may even notice other improvements. But as for the 'multitasking', I don't think I've seen that improvement, but you do know that females are far superior than males in that area, right?

Seriously, women have always been better multitaskers than men.
I wish it weren't true, but it is.

Brain fog

Post by kteague » Thu Sep 07, 2006 10:40 pm

Yes, brain fog is close to universal when sleep disruption has continued for a long time. Many say it totally resolved with treatment, others say they see improvement. I'm in the latter group and hope one fine day to join the prior.

You would think that the RTs would have enough experience and sense to know that if they ask someone who has OSA "Do you have memory problems?" that we really wouldn't be able remember if we do or not if we really do have memory problems! LOLOL (Does that make sense???)

fogged up memory

Post by CareS » Sat Sep 09, 2006 4:26 pm

Hi, I have been on cpap a year and a half. Right away, I noticed a dramatic difference in the clarity of my thinking and memory. The funny part was the things I was remembering was songs. I have played the piano for as long as I can remember and all these songs that I had forgotten came flooding back. I am still hopeless on dates but who cares. There was also a noticible improvement in the number and severity of headaches and people were telling me I wasn't nearly as spaced out or forgetful. That is my experience. CareS
