Post by halb » Fri Sep 01, 2006 2:38 pm

in order for me to get the data from my s-8 auto vantage do i need a card reader or can i hook up to my computer directly. I was told that the s-8 needs the card reader as opposed to the s-7 that can use a usb or serial port

I think you would probably be better off using the reader. Even if there were USB or serial adapters for the S8 they would probably be very difficult to find.

I assume you know that you can read some efficacy data right on the LCD of the Vantage and Elite.

You can buy a Resmed USB datacard reader for your computer or a serial port for your S8. Both are close to the same price.

The S8 comes with the ability to accept a ResMed slimline data card - the serial port as mentioned above is a purchaseable add on.

Common sense says buy the card reader as not all modern computers have serial ports & quite frankly they can be a PITB - I use serial with my S7 & VPAP machines but I am a comms expert & have done serial comms for over 40 years starting at IBM, as well as at home, in the 1990s with PCs and most recently (2004) as part of my professional expertise at work. My advice is go for a datacard reader.

Good luck
