RemStar Troubles

Post by Pooh105 » Sat Aug 05, 2006 4:46 pm

All,

Seems that I have to ship my Resprironics RemStar back to Billmyinsurance.com for repair. It seems that the unit (Only 2 months old) has develped a problem with the internal clock as well as with the auto C-flex feature of the unit. The pressure reading never changed from 10. The auto-on feature was also non-operational.
Don't get me wrong, I love the unit. It just seems strange that it "broke" so soon?!?! I do not use a DME like most folks in here do. My insurance does not care about care of the unit, they just pay out their share of the money. I just do not know how to politely say I am comcerned that the unit "broke" so soon?

Later,

Pooh

Things happen, Be sure to make a detailed list of what is failing to work, so they will have a idea of what need to be repaired.

It seems most of the repairs involve changing out the circuit board. Jim

Yeah this is unfortunately the one area where using an online company can never compare to a local business sadly. Not much else to do but pack it up and ship it off. You are basically going to want to go ahead and bite the bullet to pay for extra insurance on the shipment as well since standard shipping only covers up to $100.00 worth of coverage if they drive over the box with a truck. It'll add an extra 10 bucks or so additional onto the shipping charges.

Repair this soon? What a bummer!
Do you have a back-up machine to use in the meantime?
How long will they keep your machine for repairs?
And, if you don't mind my asking, do you have any idea what the repair charges will be as yet?
(Just curious as I have purchased from cpap.com recently also.)

The alt is buy from a DME, pay over twice as much, if it goes bad give it to your DME, he sets it on the floor in the backroom for two month, or until you gripe enough, mileage may vary.

You can take the money you saved buying online and get a second unit and still be money ahead. Jim

Your local DMe would have to pack and ship it back, just like you, but I'm sure you won't be leaving it sit in the cornor two month, before you ship it.

Providing it isn't something you did it's under warrenty for two years.

Goofproof,
Do you mean that the DME's repair the machines? (I thought that the machines were sent back to the manufacturer for repairs?)

Just one minor thing: The auto-on feature on my Remstar Pro 2 gets a little lazy sometimes and won't come on right away. I just put my hand on the exhaust port of the mask and inhale sharply. It kicks on every time.

Sorry that the other issues aren't that easily remedied.

oops!
I see now in your last post that, indeed, the DME merely returns the machine to the manufacturer!

Got the replacement

Post by Pooh105 » Tue Aug 08, 2006 7:24 pm

As Snoredog stated, I got the replacement unit (the same typr and model) within 4 days (excluding the weekend) from billmyinsurance. I am really impressed with these folks! Plus, my unit is covered under warranty. Thanks for all the replys!

Later,

Pooh

Sure is good to hear such positive results about repairs/replacements!
