power outtage and then woke up hmm the oxygen machine might

Post by moreorless » Thu Jan 05, 2017 12:56 pm

had a power outtage and I woke up then machine bipap powered back on quickly.
the oxygen concentrator came back on i turned it off and then back on * i think the oxygen concentrator made a noise but cant be sure.
I had no problem breathing. the full face mask has the diffuser on it, so i guess if the bipap machine is off i can still breathe with the air going out of the diffuser ? dunno if that is true I am just assuming.

but I believe my dog will alert me too or bark. I just woke up. weird. and my roomate will alert me too. *as I ask them too if the power ever goes out to wake me up.
hmm maybe concentrator made a noise. ?
have one of these

so maybe they do make noise of the power goes off. or something happens.

I bought one of these and plugged it into the same outlet where my cpap is plugged. It will wake you and let you know when the power is off. https://www.amazon.com/POWER-RELIANCE-C ... +off+alert

You can check the O2 pump for warning noise, by running it and pulling the plug, to run a warning sound would probably require a powered backup cell in the unit, unlikely, it does have a error noise if the output line gets smashed shut stopping the flow... Jim

I have the same O2 concentrator with the OPI indicator. It beeps when there is a power loss and again when it starts. Not too loud though.

My PR cpap machine beeps when it comes on.

The mask, in addition to the diffuser, also has an anti-asphyxiation valve on it somewhere and that is what allows you to continue breathing even if the cpap is off.

A number of years ago, the plug for my PR 750P machine fell out of the socket during the night and I didn't wake up for about 45 minutes to notice it not running. The number came from looking at the data and seeing a gap of about that long. It was a little more difficult to breathe in that condition but not so much as to wake me up.

The times I was sleeping when the power went out I woke up almost immediately. Ya know how when you are awake when the power goes out and you notice the "silence" - it seems like that is what woke me. I think this happens to most people.

fwiw - the cpaps are designed to return to the state they were in (On or Off) when power is restored. Give it a try by unplugging it after turning it on.
